I'm a woman in my late 20s and until recently had mild/moderate adult acne. A lot of it was hormonal. My skin (combination-type) has improved a lot in the past few months. I get spots once in a long while, but they are barely noticeable, and disappear swiftly without marks. I thought I would share my experience in case it helps anyone.

Getting rid of acne always involves avoiding/eliminating acne-causing inflammation, which could come from internal or external sources. My experience was that you have to do a lot to avoid internal inflammation, but avoiding external inflammation is pretty easy. Just don't do too much.

Internal sources of inflammation: If you are a girl, a very good idea is going on the pill, and taking it very very regularly, right on the minute every day. You could also try DIM. Also, getting a lot of vitamin A helps, and to avoid toxicity issues, take with lots of Vitamin D. I think fermented cod liver oil helped me there. Ginger, tumeric and fish oil are also good ideas. Avoid milk and sugar, and eat fruit in moderation. I have not been strict about avoiding sugar, more so when it comes to milk.

External sources of inflammation: This usually comes from putting too many things on your face/doing too many things to your face. Scrubbing too much is especially bad. I only use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, once a day (at night). I do not scrub at all. Active (UMF 10+) Manuka honey is the only other thing I use. Putting it overnight is good for your skin, but you need to sleep on your black and since I don't wash my face in the morning, I can't use honey on nights when I want to use makeup the next day.
