Hi guys - I've spent years looking on this website but never actually had the courage to sign up, so here goes.
I've suffered with acne on and off since I was about 11. I'm now 21 and have had enough - I want soft smooth clear skin (well don't we all!)
Ive been prescribed by my derm lymecycline antibiotics but they just don't work for me. I havee a mild-medium acne problem but also seem to suffer with dry skin. It NEVER gets oily.. ever. Some parts of my face are soft and I feel if I had never had acne I would have good deep somewhere.. but I've not seen it for a long time.
I have lots of pores on show that has created lines, especially on my forehead (where weirdly there isn't much acne) but it is full of tiny bumps as you can see in the pictures. Ive spent hundreds on skincare and nothing really works well for me. I've never been on accutane but have seen people with good results, but as my skin is so dry im not sure if it will work for me.
And even if I did clear my spots up, will I still have this rough skin texture? My forehead feels like sandpaper, and in direct sunlight it looks so awful and crepey. For a 21 year old this is not good.
Ive attached some photographs in bright light to see what you guys think the problem is. It would mean so much as it's starting to get so depressing
Thanks so much.
Hi. Ive been using the cetaphil moisturiser but have to be careful not to use anything too thick so I don't break out! The problem is my skin never ever gets oily so im not sure what to do. Its the clogged pores and blackheads that bother me the most - I've used a lot of different exfoliators and although they soften my skin the following day I'll break out even more
I do wear a lot of makeup as im in a line of work where you have to - but ive not worn as much the past week or so. I have started to drink more water I just don't know what to do anymore. The clogged pores bumpy texture is the worst and I'm not sure how to get rid (as well as all the spots!)
Thanks for your help

Hi lilyrose,
What moisturiser do you use? Have you tried something heavier/thicker?
Do you drink a lot of water? Do you apply a lot of make-up?
Sorry for all the questions, just want to see where I can help you.
Try using less make up, like you are doing. Minimizing this could help you.
How often do you wash your face? I would stick to twice a day (morning and night).
Why don't you try a slightly heavier night cream (only apply at night). This might give your skin the moisture it needs for the following day. When you try a night cream, stick with it for a while. If, after a few weeks, your acne gets worse, try another one.
I know this takes patience but it all about testing different products that suit you.
