I was wondering what kind of acne I have, because my acne doesn't look so bad to be severe/cystic, but my pimples usually stay for over 2 weeks. I was also wondering if there were ways to decrease my acne without using harsh products. Last year, I was on acne.org's benzoyl peroxide acne treatment, but the treatment was irritating my skin, I was getting itchy, and it looks like it might of given me eczema(according to dermatologist), because there's this huge spot on my face that doesn't feel like the rest of my skin and is inflammed. The dermatologist put me on Cetaphil cream and told me to only use water to wash my face and use this cream, because my skin has gotten very dry and I have eczema. The problem is that the spot that I had that appears to look like eczema hasn't gone away, plus the number of pimples i've gotten has increased by a lot. If someone could give me some advice on this, it'd be great.
mhhhhhhhh.... i know derms are specialist (and they are!) also probably can help better than anyone on this. But i found that if i use any type of moisturizer that i will break out and when i did use it my spots looked sorta like yours. Its a popular belief that hydration is the number one skin care staple to have and everyone to use it. Some can handle it, but some cant. Even both my brothers cant handle creams on the skin. By being minimal (cleanse without stripping) after washing you didnt really need to hydrate because you didnt strip the skin. But i found that my skin doesn't hydrating creams. It gets irritated and than breaks out. I guess its just too heavy or my skin is easily clogged.
All i do if just cleanse lightly with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser (very quickly!) you want to use 2 fingers to cleanse so you are not irritating the skin.
And for hydrating i do it from the inside out! Drink a lot of water (and not just 6 cups a day like they say) Before i even start my breakfast in the morning i have about 800ML of water ( i have a camelbak water bottle so i know how much i drink) And throughout the day i fill it up about 6 times- yes it will make you piss a lot (not to be nasty) I dont drink any other liquids- i will on occasion have like a lipton green tea if i feel like i need some sugar but thats rare.
This has nothing to do with your question but i might as well add it. I have a lottt of intolerances and allergies to foods/ingredients. For instance im intolerant to all citrus fruits.... i know very sad- but if i did eat it i wouldnt have my throat close up- i would get an itchy face and my rosacea would flare. Im also lactose intolerant, cant have oats, bakers yeast, apples, soy (crys), almonds, i can only have a small amount of tomato- if i eat too much i will get itchy. And also my body reacts to high levels of sugar and salt making me watch whatever i eat.
Anyways i hope you get your issue sorted. have a great day!
Yep, go back to the derm. You can still treat your acne but you must be super careful.
Treatments off the top of my head are azelaic acid and sodium sulfacetamide + sulfur combos--of course, that depends on your tolerance and what your insurance covers.
I've heard some dermatologists recommending gluconolactone lotions for eczematous and acne-prone skin, but a lot don't because there's not enough evidence behind it for just general use.
