8 Friends & Me Acne Free. Two Supplements

30,000IU Vitamin D3 (gel caps) daily

100,000IU Beta Carotene daily

taken with fatty meal

ALL of us are acne free after three weeks of starting this.

18-20 year old university students. My acne wasn't that bad, but I had friends with faces full of cysts who now look like they've always had flawless skin. The majority of us have really poor diets (pizza most days) and don't exercise at all.

Now before all the replies come in about the huge doses - we understand the risk. Many experts on the Vitamin D council have said up to 30,000IU daily is absolutely fine, and the benefits outweigh the risks. Beta Carotene has its own risks, the only ones I have seen are linked to increase risk of lung cancer in smokers only.

The bottom line is simple - there are risks in taking every supplement however I can guarantee for the majority, having a flawless face is worth taking the risk and its truly a miracle what it's done to my friends faces and mine.

What's the point spending a load of money on face washes and make up? At that approach, you'll never get rid of your acne properly because you are only treating it externally - the real cause is internal!

It would be really interesting if some of you could try this out.

N.B. I tried this out with just the 30k Vit D3 which got me around 75% clear - the beta carotene did the rest and I have a really glowing complexion.

Good luck!

Can you provide us the University and the paper your group of friends did on this study?

Wow. Let me know who's not sick in 6-18 months of doing this; that's the real question. That vitamin D intake is high but not necessarily dangerous, but that much Beta Carotene has really not even been studied that much and has been hypothesized to be very dangerous long term; not to mention the risk that you could actually temporarily give your skin a yellow/orange hue to it.

You guys are going to overdose on vitamin D and Beta carotene and have way worse problems than acne.

So I've been doing a lot of research and experimentation with Vit A and D. I have been taking both for about 4-5 months and seen drastic improvements. I started with 30,000 iu Vit A and bumped up to 60,000 and then 90,000 each for 1 month before coming back down to 30,000 for the last couple. I have definitely noticed an improvement in doing this, more with higher doses.

My question is when people see this and come and say: Oh My God you are going to overdose on Vit A, get sick, bla bla bla, is there any evidence behind this? I have a feeling taking 90,000 Iu of Vit A for a long time probably isnt good but are there any long term effects to say 30 or so every day?

After almost 6 months I don't feel different and have much clearer skin. (I did notice some dehydration/ dryness during the month at 90)

I also use Vitamin A from cod liver oil as I have heard our bodies cannot do very much with beta-carotene.

beta carotene is the natural form of vitamin A that is yet to be converted by the body. Absorption by the stomach and beginning of the small intestine limits its uptake by the body according to its need; at worst cause it can lead to the skin turning orange. The body heavily regulates the conversion to vitamin A from beta carotene. So the risk of liver toxicity is reduced compared to its counter part synthetic version.

I would consume a balanced diet and supplement other carotenoids if possible. And just monitor for unusual side effects.

Vitamin D.. still controversial depending whom you speak to too. I've spoken to doctors and read from those that state the research is still in its infancy and the long term effects are not known and the dosages are not agreed upon. Some even saying 1000iu is no better than 10x that.

It may also depend upon the population, location, gender, race, latitude- all come into play.

We've all taken the risk and we're all fully clear. No need to keep swanning around these threads for advice or reviews - cleared. Hypothesised? I can also make the hypothesis that beta carotene will make me live up to the age 500. Hypothesises mean nothing.

Spoken like a true "teenagebusta". Your hypothesis means nothing against the hypothesis of doctors that have a decade of graduate studies and possibly decades more of clinical and research experience.

And I'm not trying to make you stop; this regimen will probably do that to you on its own. I'm trying to educate others on the dangers of just throwing down tremendous amounts of a vitamin just because you "think" it'll cure your acne, without considering what else it can do to you.

Consuming that much beta-carotene, as a Vitamin A precursor, could have similar effects to Accutane; good luck to you.

But follow through and give us a monthly progress report, and if you're right and there's no side effects you'll all be millionaires.

I don't think beta carotene is dangerous. The body only converts what it needs. It's not fat soluble and doesn't store in the liver.

i believe this is false because accutane is derived from vitamin a and even that doesnt clear acne that fast

I don't know much about this but taking that much of each seems too high (for me)

I'm going to need to see before and after pics.

Also, whats the plan from now on? Continue with those doses indefinitely?

The long term effects may quite drastic, no?

Before consuming such high dosage of those vitamins I would consult a professional and learn more about the potential risks and what damage it can do to my body.

I'm too scared to cause more problems to my body.

I just wanted to share with everybody that after reading this post I decided to start taking Beta Carotene & Vitamin D3 supplements. I've nearly been taking them for 3 months now and honestly I can't really see an improvement. Over the course of the past 3 months, my skin has turned quite orange, which I actually kind of liked, as it looked like I had a constant tan. I had various people comment on how 'healthy' my skin was looking and asking what it is I'm doing. But, unfortunately, as far as acne goes, I still have it. I think I'm going to finish up the rest of my bottles and doubt I will re-purchase after that.

This is false. Since our skin takes a month to recycle and renew it would be pretty impossible for someone with cystic acne to have 'flawless' skin in only three weeks.

Nice try kids!
