I'm trying to find a reason for my acne. After having tried Accutane and topical solutions, I'm helpless. Nothing has worked very well. My parents or relatives never had any acne. So it's rather odd that I have.
Maybe hormone/blood/allergy/... tests would provide new information. Have any of you guys taken those tests and was it beneficial? If doctors find, for instance, that I have hormone imbalance could it be cured? I'm a male.
Best testing for hormones (as accurate as you'll get) = saliva
Best testing not just for allergies but for food sensitivities, which is what many people have and skin testing won't be able to detect = a test that measures both your IgE (immediate allergic reactions) and - most importantly - IgG (delayed reactions to certain things). If your body is producing a higher number of antibodies than normal, then it's considered reactive...that should give you an indication on whether your acne could be caused by intolerances, even if the allergist doesn't find the specific triggers. In my case, they couldn't find specific triggers, but found a high amount of histamines and antibodies (close to the amount produced when someone has an asthma attack) in my body. I was given an extensive list of things to avoid including lotions, shampoos etc, until I figure out my specific triggers.
Many people respond well to hormonal treatments.
However, many of us who have cleared up on hormonal treatments also came out "normal" on tests. So I wouldn't use the test as the only answer.
It's probably because your androgen sensitive though. All people with acne have sebaceous glands more sensitive to testosterone regardless of the level of their hormones. Hormone imbalances are actually quite rare realistically. Most people with a true hormone imbalance have a whole set of distressing symptoms rather than just ongoing acne. Certain hormone imbalances can even be fatal.
i took the allergy test- and it was the best decision! found out i have sensitivities to many fruits, and common ingredients!
Did it actually help your acne buy avoiding those foods and ingredients?
I've heard of several people developing Orthorexia due to taking this test and following the results strictly.
I'm a recovered sufferer of Anorexia so I won't risk taking a food allergy test for just that reason.

No treatment for acne should be started without having a full set of specific acne tests first such as blood tests, bacteria, fungus, parasites, endocrine, testosterone, DHEAS, estradiol, prolactin, LH/FSH ratio and many others tests for kidneys, liver, stomach, allergies etc. + VISIA too. The standard blood tests won't reveal much if anything regarding acne. I haven't got these tests because no dermatologist asked me, but since I started documenting myself I've found a doctor that showed me why these tests are essential in treating acne and as soon as I raise enough money I will go to him. And yes, hormone imbalance can be cured for men, on option would be by diet and detoxification and rejuvenation of the body, but I don't know much about it to be honest. Good luck.

Yes it did! Ofcourse it didnt rid it fully- also i have rosacea that can be sensitive to thing i ingest that can result in bad flair ups (redness, bumps like acne) I recommend anyone curious about it to just get tested because you really get to know your body even better.
Thanks a lot guys! Now I would like to know who's the right doctor to talk to? An endocrinologist, dermatologist, naturopath...?
Really? Nobody knows.
dermatologists can send you to get tested
Of course, podiatrist can do that too but it's important that the doctor will understand the results.

don't know what to say, after like 9 dermatologists i found one that told me about those tests in particular, so if your derm. didn't even mention about them i don't know if they understand them...try and speak with a dermatologist about it and see what he says?

He's a Romanian doctor, right? What's his name? Can I read about him and why he thinks those test are essential on the internet?

Victor Clatici and Oana Clatici. What do you mean why he thinks that? How could you know otherwise what is wrong with your body, if not by checking everything that produces and maintaines acne?
