Acne Severity?

I've had acne for about a year and a half now. I've tried various things, most antibiotic pills, clindamycin , monocycline, ect....

I've used things such as Acanya, Retin-A, Altarin, Differin, ect....

My Acne has improved very slightly over the course of these treatments for the past year and a half.

My dermatologist prescribed me Accutane, the Accutane is literally downstairs, but my parents have been reading up on Accutane and fear for its severe side effects. They say that my acne is barley even mild, but as anyone with acne can tell you, it does not feel that way. The acne is mostly on my cheeks and is starting to form on my back.

How severe is my acne?

Will it leave scars? (Any)

Is Accutane not worth the risks?

Should I take accutane?

I'm on the same boat as you. I've tried every topical/antibiotic w/ little success. my derm prescribed me accutane today. i would say you have mild acne and a little hyper pigmentation

I agree with the posters above. You seem to have very mild acne, and I think your skin looks like it has a nice texture. I recommend that you avoid accutane. In fact I'm surprised your doctor even prescribed it for you considering the mildness of your acne.

Have you used epiduo in the past? I've had a lot of success with following this site's regimen, and more recently epiduo. I have a photo gallery that documents my progress.

Good luck with whatever you decide though, but be gentle with your skin. You have nice skin so be kind to it! :)

I too would avoid accutane. Your case is mild enough to forego it. Since you seem to have mostly inflammatory acne, I would first recommend dietary changes. You could try doing the paleo diet. In addition, I would use a mild topical. Benzoyl peroxide is useful for dealing with inflammatory acne. I would use the 2.5% that is sold on this site, as it's quite hard to find elsewhere in meaningful volumes (and washes are less effective). If you don't want to use BP or you've used it in the past and it hasn't worked, I would just stick to a 2-3% salicylic acid cleanser. It might also be useful to keep in mind that sometimes, less is more; the less you do to your skin, the better it will look.
