after trying everthing on my mild acne with shallow scars adding every month my doctor after 3 years of trying everything gave me accutane 30mg for 5-6 months.
so can i wear makeup? should i use moistruirizer? when i will see any change or improvement? (she says that with mild acne and this dosage there is no IB so leta hope. what will else do 30 mg to my skin except dryness? thanks
You can wear makeup. Definitely moisturize, get Aquafor for lips, ears and nose (which if too dry could crack and bleed). Use a gentle non-sudsing, syndet and surfactant-free cleanser, like Cetaphil. You'll notice your hair getting dry, so I would also consider skipping shampoo in the shower and washing with only conditioner.
Take vigorous exercise easily as you could experience joint pain and some inflammation could ensue.
Lastly, do not pick. Your skin will not be able to properly heal from skin picking and could cause severe irritation and permanant scarring.
All taken from experience.
Hey there, I too was on Accutane and I finished a few months back.
Carmex lip balm works best for dry lips. Aquaphor works well; however, I found that carmex works much better to prevent dryness and to be sure that you won't be picking at your lips. As far as your skin, you are right, dryness will be an issue but that's an easy fix. Depending on your skin type, I would try to ensure that you have a good moisturizer and a good cleanser that won't dry you out.
My skin was so dry, I had to use Ponds Cold Creme as a cleanser. Its a makeup remover but I used it as a cleanser for months and it worked really well. During my Accutane treatment (and this is just me), I used ponds cold creme, cetaphil moisturizer, and a regular sunscreen because that is critical during your treatment. That ensured that my skin was not dry, and that it was protected from the sun.
Just some tips: try to not drink alcohol, or consume excess amounts of Vitamin A. Especially be cautious if taking a multivitamin or any type of supplement that contains vitamin A.
Month 1 and 2 are generally the worst. It does seem that your skin will get worse. Breaking out in other spots that you've never had problems with. You will also notice that your lips will go from perfectly normal, to dry, to chapped, to really chapped. If you have a lip balm, that takes care of most of it. But trust me, the lips being dry do get extremely annoying at times. Just something that has to happen as you go through your treatment.
Month 3 is when you start to notice a change for the better compared to previous months. As you move into month 4, my derm told me that's when you are rounding second base. To me, he was dead on. Month 5 is kind of the icing on the cake really. By that time, your skin should dramatically improve from when you started. And my month 6 was more precautionary than anything. He said that it is just to be sure that the final nail is in the coffin as in the acne not coming back even after the treatment is finished.
The side effects I got - dry skin, extremely dry lips, joint/bone pain, little fatigued, skin was much more sensitive (sunscreen!), nosebleeds at random times, and drier eyes than usual. All nothing major, but totally worth it when your treatment is over.
Take pictures if you can. I would take a pic on day 1, then every 3 weeks. Just to watch how the progress is going. First few months might be a little overwhelming, but when you see the final product, can't help but to be relieved! Good luck!
As soon as treatment is completed, everything goes back to normal pretty quick.

thanks! do you think that 30mg is enough on 65 kilos for 6 months to kill acne forever?
Yea I just got on it too. The thing is, my derm just didn't really seem to be all that serious about it. She just fave me the stuff and I was on my way. Also, my acne isn't horrible and I haven't tried nearly the amount of products that you probably should go on before resorting to accutane. At least I think it's working so far.
