I've started dianette a week ago and my skin is BREAKING OUT LIKE CRAZY, it's the worst it's ever been. I had mild acne and its turned into moderate/severe!
I've been so depressed, it's just horrible I'm at my wits ends!
Should I persevere? If so, how long for?
Thanks to anyone replying.
I know it's not much comfort, but it could be your "purging period" , or your body getting used to the pill. One week in isn't too uncommon for all the crazy breakouts. I'd say, if it continues into the second pack (especially if your skin is really starting to affect your emotions, i.e. depression and severe anxiety) and seems to be getting worse, consider switching pills. It's good to give the pill a fair shot at helping you, but if it's really awful and unbearable I think it's not worth the worry. Another pill might help you without all the issues. Some BCPs aren't a good fit for you, and unfortunately it's kind of trial and error to see which ones are.
It might just be the purge - I say stick with it! I'm into my 4th pack of Diane and it's certainly improved my skin loads - less oily skin, fewer pimples, fewer breakouts, and even less comedonal acne! But even now I still get out breakouts - sometimes they're pretty light, just 2/3 pimples around my period, but even last week I had 7 active pimples during my breakout but now, less than a week later, they're all gone except one spot that's still healing. They always say to wait at least 3 months to see results so hopefully if you persevere you'll get the results you want to see.
Aw no worries girl, I totally get it. Who knows how many days I've opted to stay in when I could've gone out and have fun because of a bad breakout. But I've also been trying to go out more often even when I have bad skin days, and the more I do, the more I realise that not a lot of people really care about the way I look, or my friends will say they don't even notice it until I point it out to them (and I know my friends are honest with me). And I think if your boyfriend really likes you for you, he won't be "put off" by a breakout. I know it's all easier said than done, but I have faith in you .
