Is it true that one can OUTGROW acne?
I don't think women can, but a man can.
I know that it's rare for a woman to outgrow acne, but extremely common for a man too.
I'm 18 and my dad had acne an outgrew it, so I know I will too.
I just know that women don't outgrow it.. Sorry! Better start accutane..
Btw photoshop makes the biggest difference! (My face doesn't look as amazing shown) *chuckles*
I've been told by my doctor that males are more likely to outgrow their acne and it's more likely to persist in females, I'm assuming due to hormonal differences. With that said, I've had female friends that seemed to outgrow theirs while there are plenty of guys around here that would say they never did.
And don't you wish Photoshop existed in real life? If there was a real "clone stamp" I could use every morning I could've avoided Accutane altogether. =)
Women don't outgrew it simple as that
I think that is an incredibly simplistic way of looking at it. I expect the lower degree of hormonal fluctuation in men probably means that they do have a higher chance of outgrowing acne than women, but I have seen a lot of my friends who are women outgrow their acne around the 19-20 age mark. Sadly I'm not one of them, but obviously it does happen. Also I agree with Stella the diver that your comment about Accutane is very off the cuff, offensive, and unnecessary.
Well I certainly haven't grown out of it and if you check in the 'Adult Acne' section of the forum, you'll see a lot of other men that haven't either. Women can certainly outgrow acne once their hormones settle down as they get older. Yes, most women tend to have a break out during their 'time of the month', but I wouldn't call that full-blown acne.
My mother had acne as a teenager and all the years I have known her (the ones that I'm aware of) I have never seen her with a single bit of acne. So she definitely outgrew it.
I think you mean men are more likely to grow out of it due to their hormones settling down once puberty comes to an end and women tend to continually suffer with fluctuating hormone levels. It certainly isn't as cut-and-dried as you made it out to be stating that women 'don't grow out of it simple as that'. And I agree with previous posters that your comment about accutane was very insensitive, but most of all inaccurate.
Women don't outgrew it simple as that
This comment is ill-informed and uneducated. I don`t profess to be an expert on women`s hormones but as far as I am aware, just because women may be more prone to hormonal fluctuation, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that they cannot outgrow acne.
There are many ladies` on acne.org who are struggling not just with acne but also psychological issues and your comment could potentially be very damaging to them. You should be ashamed of posting such a comment. Hopefully any of the ladies` out there who read it will have the sense to treat it with the contempt it deserves.
For what`s it`s worth, there are a multitude of factors` that impact on how quickly you outgrow acne and this applies to both males and females. For example,I am 40 and although I don`t continuously have acne, I do still breakout from time to time. With me, there is a good chance that it is genetic as both my mum and gran had breakouts and cysts well into middle age. It means that I can go from looking like this:
