I'm 31 years old and I've been struggling with various acne for over 20 years. I had hoped cutting dairy from my diet earlier this year (which I've kept to) would bring an end to my skin problems, but not really - although I guess I haven't had quite as much cystic acne lately (knock on wood).
In addition to the usual whiteheads and whatnot, I'm currently dealing with lots of forehead bumps (clogged pores, I believe) that I've had for 3 months and which I've been treating with my dermatologist's recommendation of 1% Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Gel in the morning and 0.1% Tretinoin Gel at night. I moisturize with Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for combination skin in the morning but not at night. I was washing with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser morning and night for a month and a half, but last week switched to Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Foam Wash per my dermatologist's advice. The forehead bumps haven't changed much at all during this time from what I can tell.
In the last couple of weeks I've also developed a patch of acne on both sides of my neck near the base. Perhaps due to using a little too much Tretinoin Gel in that area, although I'm being even more cautious with my use of it now. My dermatologist saw me last week and told me I'm using the best medications he can give me for all my ailments, but I'm just not satisfied. I've been thinking of adding either Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid (both which I've used in the past to varying degrees of success) to my morning routine - just to see what I can accomplish. To whomever reads this, would you recommend that? And if so, what type of Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid? I see creams and gels and pads and I just don't know what would work well with Clindamycin Gel. For a couple of years, I was using 1% Clindamycin Solution with 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Cream and it helped take care of some acne but not all.
