Currently I'm using
Noxzema face wash (only use once a week since it drys and irritates my skin with all my other topicals)
Ery-tab EC 500 MG pills (twice a day) - Prescribed by dermatologist
Clindamycin 1% topical (twice a day) - Prescribed by dermatologist
Benzoyl Peroxide 5% topical gel (twice a day) - Prescribed by dermatologist
Tazorac 1% gel (twice a day) - Prescribed by dermatologist
Moisturizer (twice a day)
I'm still getting a lot of breakouts and white heads (probably because I'm not using the face wash frequent enough since my face becomes very dry)
My dermatologist told me to not use the face wash if my skin gets very irritated but I feel like the face wash is vital to use twice a day as well.
I really only apply a little bit of each topical to my face, should I be using a lot more?
Am I using too much things on my face?
Also, should I really wait 5-15 minutes after I apply each medicine because I just apply each medicine right after one another.
Any tips would be great.
That does seem like a lot! I don't understand why you need both clindamycin and bp. Is the 5% bp to spot treat?
Swap your noxzema for cerave hydrating cleanser(green label) it is a lot more gentle and won't dry you out
She told me to stop using Noxzema but I still have BP 6% face wash that she said to use twice a day if my skin doesn't get irritated. But I have the BP 5% topical so why should I use both right?
Your derm definitely doesn't mind laying down a gauntlet of Rx. But it does make sense if your acne is severe and you're not on accutane.
From my personal experience, from clinical research, and from speaking with a bunch of derms, the biggest issue with so many medications is consistently applying them at the right time, in the right way, every day. I don't know when you're supposed to take these during the day, but you need a clear and concise action plan (i.e. BPO, wait 10 min, Clindamycin, wait 10 min, Tazorac, etc,) If you're taking so many medications the 10 minutes between each application is absolutlely necessary. Without the hiatus, your skin is absorbing the medications all at the same time, which can cause different effects than they're supposed to.
It's also worth mentioning that moisturizer is your best friend. Apply it liberally and often. It does wonders to reduce irritation and you can even mix it together with the tazorac and apply them together.
I'm not sure how long you've been taking this regiment, but these medications will take at least 3 months before you will see their full effects.
Finally, DO NOT APPLY MORE. These medications have a certain dosage that's right for your skin. More medication doesn't mean they'll work better, but will just increase irritation and can even lead to worse, more inflamed acne.
I hope this helps!! Good luck and remember to call your derm if you're having any adverse reactions.
Yup, I try to be consistent with them even though it is a hassle putting on every night and day. And she told me to wait 30 minutes after washing my face and then I can put on the medication on one after another without waiting.
yes,too much.
prescribed by derma,alright!
but r they all by the same derma at a time?
Yes, they are all from the same dermatologist.
I am not an expert, but from experience the more mild the treatment, the better the results.
I was on a Retin-A and using it every day, once a day, and found that decreased usage to 2 times a week greatly improved any skin problems. I would assume twice a day PLUS antibiotic gel and BP is a bit too much! Your skin needs to be able to heal.
I would apply the tazorac at night, the clindamycin in the morning, and use BP every other day, at night. I think right now it's possible you are doing more damage than good. Your dermatologist is a bit heavy-handed, in my opinion!
(Btw, my skin is almost completely clear, minus a few irritated pores. I use Retin-A once a week, sulfer masks as needed, and wash with a gentle cleanser twice a day. I also use aloe vera toner and SPF natural moisturizer in the morning only.)
Good luck!
I personally wouldn't use the bp face wash, seems like it will cause too much irritation.
Ask your derm about cerave face wash.
Yeah, I only really try to wash my face once a week with the BP 6% since my skin gets really dry with all of these other medications to even wash my face with face wash once a day. Just trying to use just water to wash my face everyday now. Hopefully it works out fine since I go to the gym five times a week. It seemed like she didn't like me using the Noxzema face wash and she said just to use the medications she prescribed me.

Thank you for the advice! I'm going to try a little bit longer with using these products twice a day with using my face wash once a week. If not, I will definitely try what you've said. I just want good skin again!
Ever since I've been using Clindamycin and Tazorac, I don't really get cystic acne anymore. However, my acne is still severe (in my opinion). Maybe I should post pictures up to see where it's at. I know that I'm using a lot of medications, but I'm afraid that if I stop using some of these medications that my cystic acne may come back.
Just bought Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser today. I'm gonna try to use it once or twice a week. Using it once a day will probably dry out my skin alot.
I don't think it will. It's not a soap and doesn't suds up. I used it before when I tried the regimen and it was very gentle and caused absolutely no drying or peeling of the skin.
I liked it for removing makeup before cleansing. Didn't care for it as a main cleanser because it basically did the same thing water would do.
