Hey
I'm a 16-year-old girl from Europe and I've read in this forum for about a month and I finally decided to share my acne story with you.
I got my first pimples at the age of 12 and these pimples turned into mild acne and, after I had gotten my period, even into moderate acne. So I went to a dermatologist who prescribed me topical Erythromycin. Well, it didn't help me at all, so I lost confidence in skin doctors. I thought I would just have to live with it for a couple of years. But since I have no patience, I tried out a few self-medications with benzoyl peroxide (allergic reaction maybe, i got red) and salicylic acid (didn't notice any effect).
At the age of 15, I felt so bad about my awful skin condition that I went to see another dermatologist. He gave me Differin gel which contains a retinoid. I used it for about four months and guess what, using it did not make a change. At this point of time I had nearly given up.
Eventually, I brought myself to visit the skin doctor one last time. This time he prescribed me Isotrex (topical isotretinoin) and Skinoren (azelaic acid). After having applied it regularly for two months, I noticed the first improvements I continued and now I've been using it for six and a half months and the skin I'm having now is the best I've had since puberty started bothering me
BUT - I still do have oily skin, big pores and a few small acne scars on my left cheek and above my lips.
I'm planning on getting them removed after puberty with chemical peelings or dermaroller treatments. Can you give me any advice about scar removal? Any personal experiences? My marks are pretty small and they are athrophic if this information is important.
An my second question is - what can I do about my oily skin? I feel quite uncomfortable with it and it really annoys me.
So thanks for reading and I'm sorry for my bad grammar and the spelling mistakes.
Any help is highly appreciated
Marie

I'm afraid I don't have much knowledge on scars but I'm sure a lot of people will be able to help you if you post a question on the Scar/Red Mark Treatments forum.
As for oily skin, I found Garnier's Long-Lasting Shine Control Moisturiser to be really helpful in reducing oil but you do have to wait a good three weeks to see the full effect from it. Out of all the oily skin treatments I've tried it's definitely the one I would recommend though!
