I've been exposed to numerous types of treatment including accutane 20mg and 40mg. I took the tablet isotane 20mg for close to a year, my acne cleared up, but it did come back. I was put on a tablet called 'tuff acne' which is a form of accutane, took 40mg of that for almost 6 months daily. The acne cleared up again, stayed pimple free for close to 2 months and then it was back again.

Went back to the derm who put me on accutane and he told me to take this tablet roxid daily for a month, it was great, had amazing skin for a month and as soon as I stopped the tablet my acne returned.

Changed derms, the new guy put me on a tablet called Minoz OD 100 for 20 days, tried that and it cleared my acne, now im off it and I can feel the pimples coming back, they arnt what they used to be but I can feel them returning.

I really need advice, had acne for almost 6 years now, started of when i was 15, almost 21 now. Is there any adverse long term effects to taking accutane like maybe 10 days a month? Honestly thats the only drug that seems to work on me for extended periods of time.

Ive tried the regime, but it cant really keep my acne in check, its great when combined with tablets but by itself, it seems too little.

Any advice, suggestions would be really appreciated.

Well honestly all the derms keep telling me my diet has a very minor role in acne so Ive never really paid much attention to it. I do try to avoid excessive oily foods and dont really have too much sugars daily other than that a daily meal would consist of starch and pulses, along with meats(usually chicken).

Cool,Thanks so much for your help.

Would you know of any over the counter medications or tropical applications? Currently Im using the regime but like I said its not really helping and the acne is spreading again.

a safer bet for OTC topicals is clindamycin phosphate gel.or even better clindamycin + nicotinamide gel.

take the diet and lifestyle modification route for preventing acne , and in case its effecting u/or u r in a hurry take the OTC topical for treating acne already present (or almost formed).

in fact, topicals usually cant 'prevent' break outs as such unless u carry on with them all ur life.which again is not the best option.

bp is an option but i'd say keep it for the last.it too has side effects on many.

Aanabill, its gotten alot worse, like ive developed a few cystic ones on my cheeks now. Im thinking of taking a month long dose of accutane again.

I have cut down my dairy consumption to barely anything, and my sugar intake has been reduced.

Any suggestions?

Are you taking any supplements? Consider adding a D3 supplement, an omega 3 and DIM (also known as Estroblock, can be found at your local health food store or vitamin store).

how long has it been since the dietary change?

stop dairy.

u could add vit b complex.vitc and zinc as supplements.

also,others as mentioned above.

are u spot treating with clindamycin+ nicotinamide gel?

what about sleep, activity and stress level?

Well the dairy has been stopped right from the day you told me to, that was on the 28th of June.

As far as vitamins go I used to take zinc sulfate as well as Omega 3 for quite some time but I did discontinue it after the acne persisted.

give it time.and relax to see any result.

if diet is indeed a cause for u then time is needed.
