So iv'e had various medications for acne since the last 4 years or so.I'm almost 21 now.I have been following the caveman regimen since almost 3 weeks now .I have cleared up.While there are no new pimples, the existing scars are taking a lot of time to heal. Also with all the topical creams i have applied on my face ,my complexion has gone few shades down.On comparing my current pictures with the four year old ones i have noticed an unwanted change in my facial skin color.

It's like adding insult to injury.First you battle with acne and then you deal with its ramifications. Are there any methods to regain my original skin color? Are there ways which could fade away my scars ?

Kindly help me smile.png

yes benozoil peroxide and many other acne medications cause hyperpigmentation on darker skintone such as yours

you can always return to your natural skin color, but you cannot go beyond that

so yeah, it is possible to recover your skintone, just gotta use lightening creams

some peeling sessions may be needed, lactic acid peel maybe

So you suggest lactic peels and lightening agents? My dad being a Neurologist and mom a gynecologist ,they both are against lightening creams as they are carcinogenic(It's documented).Lactic peels sometimes even exacerbate acne.Which i DON'T want! I just want my normal skin tone.I know i cannot get fairer! lol i'm an Indian. We have dusky genes smile.png

if its for the bp or other acne med,its probably because they make u sensitive to sunlight and u've got tanned.

or its the burn which sometimes bp causes.

although i think its the former.

u r to use a good sunscreen with high spf and both physical and chemical blocks.religiously!

i use one which was prescribed to me.

if its tan or due to any medication,it will go away but u gotta be patient.

it might take some time.

i am indian as well but am fair.its bad u know.

even small spots looks all very noticeable and red.

dusky skin looks good anyway.

Sunscreens make me feel all sticky on my face.Hence i never use sunscreens. I've read somewhere your fond of a neurologist doctor. My dad is a M.D, D.M Neurologist from P.G.I Chandigarh :)

you being indian has nothing to do with not being to get fairer, nobody can get fairer beyond their natural, is impossible to lighten the skin beyond your natural skin color, all you can do is recover your natural skintone, so in that sense you are yes lightening, but only recovering what is yours, what you were born with

the color of the skin is produced by an enzyme called melanin, and melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes, each of these cells contains dna material (genes) and will produce a certain amount of melanin based on your genetic makeup, this is why all people have different tones and colors, no one has the same color, the more melanin your cells produce, the darker your skin will be, this cannot be changed, is genetic, in order to change this you would need to find a way to mess with the dna of all cells, which is why is impossible to lighten your skin, you can only recover what was yours in the first place

now, you may wonder, what about michael jackson? micahel jackson did not lighten his skin, he depigmented which is different, he had vitiligo, which depigmented spots, when you have this, you have 2 choices, either darken the depigmented spots (basically impossible) or depigment the rest of the skin, so it matches the depigmnented spots caused by vitiligo, the problem with depigment is that you are killing the melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, if you no longer have melaninc, you will have a weird white color, but also melanin protects the skin from the sun rays, if you no longer have melanin, you have no protection, and can easily get cancer

this is why when you are on the sun, your skin gets darker, because the cells sense the presence of UV radiation, and produce more melanin to protect the skin, thus your skin gets darker, the darker your skin is, the more natural protection against the sun

about lightening creams, like i said, they don't really lighten, but recover your natural skin tone, sure there are som ingredientese that have been proven to causes cancer such as hydroquinone, i have personally have used hydroquinone on a few spots for months and nothing happened, there also creams that are natural which have plants extracts which are proven to inhibit melanin production, again all they do is inhibit melanin up the point of your natural skin tone, and not beyond that

you should wear sunscreen everyday, and use one of these natural plan extracts

lactic acid is the safest peel you can use

Can you please suggest some sunscreens which are non-comedogenic and are easily available in Dehradun?

Well ,yes they do have colleagues .One of them once suggested me to use Cetaphil moisturizer. It made me break out for obvious reasons(It was creamyyyy). The other time i remember one of the derms asked me to use some other moisturizer which made me break out too.So i just don't have faith on dermatologists. At least the ones in my city...They love making money by prescribing crap loads of products which never alleviate acne but exacerbate it.

cetaphil is good.but its thicker and consequently heavier mosituriser than light ones like dermadew, eloevera etc.

i used cetaphil throughout winter and i was good.infact it helped me remain mositurised on n after my accutane days.(when i was severely dry and almost cracked skinned..for side effect and lack of mositure on my part).

but as soon as it got warmer here..i started having whiteheads or zits from cetaphil.

which means it was then getting too heavy and clogged pores.

i think u're reason should be same or similar.

or may be u're intolerant or allergic to some ingredient both the creams have.so u will have to do trial and error checking for creams u use in future.

i suggest melagard 50+.

its not likely to make u break out.
