I have always had quite dry skin, or dry patches on my face. but i now have acne too.
I am using the regime (slightly altered) with the products clean and clear advantage wash - it only slightly foams and isn't very strong, Quinoderm 5% for my Benzoyl Peroxide (I cannot find 2.5%, so I only use it once at night) and for my moisturiser, i am using Neutrogena visibly clear pink grapefruit moisturiser.
I picked these product according to Dans list of products (but Dans list of products are mainly available in the US so I did my best to find the UK versions or best substitutes I could) and ingredients to look for and stay away from, all of these products are good in this area.
So let me get to the point, I have been using The Regime for 2 weeks and have noticed that my acne is calming down, my spots are clearing up, the improvements are visible (no where near complete, but i am happy to see results). I have even felt ok going out without makeup.
But... My skin is so dry, I am moisturising twice a day (and recently more) but my skin is really dry and dehydrated, I am drinking water as I should be but noticing no difference. My face feels tight, looks grey and horrible.
I dont know what to do/ use that will aid the reduction of my acne as apposed to make it get worse.
What can i do/ use to hydrate my skin that wont aggravate the acne? or clog my pores further?
Many Thanks
Katrina
I also tend to have dry skin. I like Cetaphil cream, if that's too thick for you they also make a lotion. Not sure if it's available in the UK though.
If your skin is severely dry, shea butter is awesome but make sure you're using 100% shea, not a cream that contains shea as some of the other ingredients can be comedogenic.
Some people love jojoba oil. I've tried it and it made my skin look amazing but it seems to make me break out. I think I am in the minority though as most seem to have good results with it. I would suggest testing any new moisturizer on a small area before using it all over your face though, just to be on the safe side.
Good luck to you, I hope your skin continues to improve! =)
You need to produce more sebum... Do you live in a warm humid climate? Get a good jog on make some sweat. Do this religiously (turning up your furnace won't work, it takes all the moisture out of the air and your skin) but if you do, get a warm mist humidifier for your room and keep it at 45-50% humidity. Wash your face with a mild cleanser (I like spectro jel) ONCE a day, and if you miss a day here and there, no biggie, probably helpful, so long as you don't feel like you need to wash that day. Use a soft moisturizer if you think your skin is dry after washing, preferably not if you don't have to tho (the only moisturizer I've found to produce good results is actually L'Oreal men expert hydra sensitive, this shit is great)
I don't know how well this sweating technique will work while using BP or SA... Thinking it might interfere with it. This is just an IMO as when I had oily skin my acne healed quicker, and I finally rid myself of acne from 10 years without doing anything. Then stupid me thought is use neutrogena 3 in 1 SA, Once or twice a day and derma E, microdermabrasion for the odd small Whitehead/under skin bump and small acne scars. Now my skin is shit dry, peeling huge pores and red all over. Products and too many antibiotics fucked my face.
DONT WASH WITH HARD WATER, if you don't have a water softener set to "0" hardness level I would recommend buying distilled water, it's a dollar for 4 liters and should last 3 days ish, boil some in a clean pot, pour in clean glass bowl and add room temperature distilled water till its only warm. Put your pot somewhere and don't wash it often, I'll just buildup hard minerals on it. I can't recommend the same for the glass bowl tho, as your not boiling the water and it might be suspect..suspension..ahg what's the word...fuck it, PRONE to bacterial growth (which may or may nor be beneficial)
Drink lots of water, and ingest fats (like pork fat or beef fat, EVOO. NO vegetable oils) as these get transfered into your skin, and contrary to what alot of people believe fat doest cause fat, sugar and carbs do, your body utilizes healthy fats in the absence of sugar, for thing that sugar can't do, such as increase sebum production)
I would try to find a lower percentage BP on the internet or use less of it. If you're currently using a dime-sized amount, cut that amount in half. Something like that.
I have always thought that it is important to listen to what your skin is telling you when you're following a treatment plan. I have ignored the dry, itchy feeling and applied the treatment anyway, and it always makes it so much worse--it gets red and flaky. Then you have to put even more junk on your face to battle those symptoms. Remain consistent if the regimen is giving you results, but watch the amount of BP you use. It could be the other products as well, but I think the BP is the most likely culprit.
