Acne More Like Infected Skin - Pictures

Hi.

I have battled acne for most of my life. Been on every drug out there, including 3 full accutane treatments.

Some months ago, I got a very bad breakout (infected skin, apparently due to tetracyklin). I got started on ampicillin. 2 weeks later my skin was "perfect". Face, chest, back - everything.

I have attached pictures of my bad breakout. Two weeks with Ampicillin and everything was gone.

Unfortunately you can't take ampicillin in longer periods.

My acne is pretty much only in my facial areas - chest hair, beard and also in my head. With that in mind, I very much doubt my bad skin is, what you would call "classic" acne, but more much a matter of me having some kind of infection.

My question to you guys here is: Are there any other drug out there that comes close to ampicillin and is safe to take for a long period?

With what I have described above, would you recommend a specific product to me?

Any advice is appriciated

PS. My skin is "Okay" now. But I can still get breakouts that resembles the pictures.

Thanks,

Daniel

If you keep taking anti-biotics, you are going to be constantly going in circles my friend. As you said, you can't take them for extended periods, and they are only good while you are on them. They do not address the underlying cause of your acne. They are only a temporary fix. And while on them, you destroy all the good bacteria that you need for proper gut function. And improper gut function is a huge factor in acne. Along with diet, hormone levels (which can be largely regulated with proper diet), thyroid function, liver function, etc.

You really need to alter your way of thinking in this. What have you done in regards to diet to address your acne? Or have you? One thing you need to do is stop with the anti-biotics and begin probiotics. There are numerous ways to get these. Either through a reputable supplement, fermenting vegetables at home, consuming organic yoghurt (preferably raw, but some yoghurts add multiple strands of beneficial bacteria after the pasteurization process

But for sure, i'd be very interested to hear what you eat on a day to day basis

From the pictures, it looks like folliculitis and since you said it was caused by tetracycline, it may be considered gram negative folliculitis. Typically after the tetracycline is out of your system, the folliculitis wont come back and the ampicillin was used to alleviate the symptoms. I would use the ampicillin for as long as your doctor prescribed it, but it does not hurt to ask about long term with the doctor. Also a good antibacterial soap (e.g. Cetaphil antibacterial soap) may help with folliculitis as well. Good luck :)

Ampicillin is not very effective against gram postive Staphylococcus aureus or propionibacterium acnes.

Given Ampicillin worked for you, it strongly suggests you have gram negative folliculitis. Maybe read up on that.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I have been on Ampicilin on two different occasions. First was for 10 days and other for 14 days. I'm very aware that I don't want to take this on a regular basic or anything like that. My acne is one thing, but my overall health is another.

I actually was tested for gram negative, which came out negative, so it really makes me wonder what kind causes this...

About an antibacterial soap....I have used "hibiscrub" on two different occasions and very with mixed results.

Is an antibacterial soap the same as hibiscrub?

I was more thinking of a soap with triclosan in it. I had folliculitis years back and this was recommended to me by a doctor and I noticed that the triclosan helped. But my condition was mild compared to yours and may not work, I was just throwing it out there as a suggestion.
