So I've heard a lot of people say using Extra virgin olive oil before bed time has really helped clear up their acne a lot in around 3 weeks or a bit more. And I was wondering, can anyone try this? is it safe and how do you do it? how long do you leave it on for and what are the steps to do to make the extra virgin olive oil do its job and help clear my acne?

Is what this lady in the video saying basically correct?

Please help :) I really wanna try this and know if I can. Thanks.

It all depends on your skin type. EVOO may work great for your skin. However, you might find that grapeseed oil works even better. Or sesame seed oil, or rose hip seed oil. All of these oils are great for skin, however it depends on if your acne prone skin reacts well to oils or not. EVOO is very strong stuff. Try swallowing some and you will realize just how acidic it is. It burns. The other oils i mentioned do not burn, so they may be better suited to sensitive skin types.

What you can do, is gently rub the oil on your face for a few minutes. After doing this, you can use tissue paper/toilet paper and dab off the excess oil. You do not need a shimmering layer of oil on your face. The amount that has absorbed into your skin during the rubbing period will suffice. Also this way it doesn't get all over your stuff. But this is the best way i found to use oil. You don't want to leave a bunch on your face, as this causes over-oiliness. So absorbing the excess is a great way to prevent this, without completely stripping your skin of an oil barrier

Okay, thanks. So basically, wash your face before using the extra virgin olive oil, dab a bit and rub it around your face and then after rubbing it in get a tissue and dab the rest off and just leave it on? do you have to wash anything off afterwards? thanks

You don't have to wash it off. That's basically what you are doing with the tissue, absorbing any excess that hasn't been absorbed. The official oil cleansing method calls for applying wash cloth soaked in hot water to your face after applying the oil. And then wiping the excess oil off with the cloth after like 15 minutes. Some members swear by this method. For others, after about two weeks of doing it, things began to get worse. My feeling is that by washing away all of the oil, your skin feels the need to overcompensate and create more. I remember my skin feeling a bit tight after using the washcloth method, and i credited this to how well the steaming/wiping process cleans your skin of all oil. I could be wrong though

Ok thanks. Sorry to bump this back up. Been 7 days so far, first 3 days saw a bit of improvement and the pimples dried up and reduced in size. The past 3 days there has been no improvement and it has stayed the same. Is it normal for it to start working then stay stationary? how long should i give this thing until I know if it's going to work or not?

Thanks.

For most skin treatments, people will tell you to try it for 3 months before stopping. When you start something new you will often have an IB, so trying it for 3 months lets you know if you're experiencing an IB or your skin doesn't agree with it.

Sorry for the silly question but what's an IB?

An IB is an initial breakout. It's when your skin is purging all the acne already there but under the skin. :)

Ahhh, okay! Thanks. Hm, also recently I've been told that Coconut oil is so much better then EVOO ... question is, IS it? and is it OK to just change onto coconut oil the next day. I've been using evoo for 10 days now.

Thanks.

I think you can switch. I don't see why you couldn't...

Okay, just didn't know if it's a bad thing to keep applying and changing different stuff on your face
