Hi!

Thanks to acne.org for providing this forum. I'm a 33-year-old female, and I want to thank Dan Kern for the high quality, affordable products, which I've been using for several years. Benzoyl peroxide works like a charm on me. Three and a half weeks ago, I went off benzoyl peroxide to see if my low-carb diet would prevent acne. It didn't. A week and a half ago, I switched to using this peppermint oil I bought at a farmers market. My acne is terrible right now. Oh well, nice try!

I have a question: Does anyone know if there is a connection between facial piercings and acne? A Google search did not give me any leads. I have had a labret piercing since I was 21, and almost all of my acne since my mid twenties or so has been concentrated near my labret piercing (my chin and around my mouth). Maybe that's just a coincidence? Is it normal for adults to get acne almost exclusively below their nose and mouth? I know, I should simply take out my piercing, not use benzoyl peroxide, and see what happens. I just like my piercing too much to unnecessarily let it go, though. :)

Thanks in advance for any wisdom based on personal experience or the experience of people you know.

Acne around the nose chin, mouth and jawline is usually considered hormonal acne. Or acne around the nose can also be from oil glands.

With that said years ago I did notice when I was wearing metal glasses I found I got more oily in the areas where the glasses touched my face, and had more breakouts in those areas, I switched to plastic frames and contacts and never had the problem again.

I myself had acne and used Proactiv for many many years giving me flawless skin. Then I was dumb and tried extra Strenght Proactiv which I didn't realize had Salcilyic acid in it, I had an allergic reaction and had to stop using all topical skin products. Well my skin went crazy. I even ended up on Accutane. After Accutane I still wasn't 100% clear getting acne on and around my nose, chin, between my eyebrows and upper left jaw area. I tried all kinds of "natural remedies" and went on a gluten free, dairy free, no processed food diet. I got my hormones tested for imbalance, I tried everything people suggested to get acne free. Nothing worked long term.

So I'm back to using Regular Proactiv once a day. I'm back to 100% clear again. So BP seems to be the only thing that really works for me. I know many people say how bad BP is on your skin, but when ever I use it people always tell me how great my skin looks, and how young I look (I too am 33 but most people think I'm 25) So I've decided to be ok with BP at least I'm not taking pills and supplements anymore, they really mess up the health of your body.

Anyways that my know from someone who has been fighting with/ dealing with acne for 20 years.
