Hello!

Here is a quick update on who I am. I have had acne since I hit puberty. It was always a few pimples here and there... But in my eyes I felt like it was the worse thing in the world. After going to a dermatologists, I went through the testing of products until I finally found what worked for me. This was at 17 years old. I was relieved to finally only get one or two pimples before my period... And then I met the love of my life. I decided to go on birth control and after a few months of suffering with an increase in pimples, I stopped. So, now I am dealing with small, little pimples, clogged pores on my forehead and around my mouth, and some red marks.

I get really upset every few days because I feel like I am going to always suffer from a new pimple or a new clogged pore. But, I have restarted my regimine-- cetaphil moisturizer, cleanser and benzaclin in the morning and retin-a at night. I also started taking doxycycline again, which is what worked for me initially. I am three weeks in and I am dealing with so many clogged pores on my forehead/mouth area that I think it may be the moisturizer. What do you all think? Does cetaphil cause whiteheads and clogged pores for anyone else?

Thanks for reading!

Bookworm - thanks for telling us your story.

Definitely try a GENTLE exfoliant - one that i use once in a while is the Glytone mild gel wash. it will help with the clogged pores. Most people use that wash for every day use so you can work up to that if you want to but since i stopped using it every day and use only the cetaphyl im having a hard time with my skin wanting me to go back to using it full time (small break outs)

keep using your regimen that the doctor gave you and get through any break out - if it lasts more than an month, then id contact your doctor about it but give it at least a month.

i do not think that cetaphyl causes whiteheads - its just your body adjusting to the changes - your glands reacts to the new products and can produce more oil, clogging the pores, creating the acne so give it time to adjust!

Smile - it will all be okay just be patient, try to relax, drink LOTS of water, eat healthy and carry on...

For me, cetaphil did cause white heads and small pimples. I switched to cerave gentle foaming facewash and their PM mosturizer. I also recently started taking doxycycline. I've seen improvment already just from the cerave facewash and mosturizer, I highly recommend you switch to it.

Thank you so much for giving me advice! I actually have switched my moisturizer to Yes To Tomatoes, an all natural moisturizer that does not have any of the known pore clogging ingredients in it. I have still been getting pimples, but I am only a month into these two new topical medications. I am just happy that it hasn't gotten any worse, but I still have been getting one or two pimples every week. I have learned to not pick at them, put my medicine on, and some cover up. I wish I could find a good cover up though! Right now I use Cover Girl Clean. I may end up using a Glytone wash as well for all my clogged pores from the cetaphil moisturizer.
