Here is another suggestion. If you can afford to go see Dr. Redmond (which I mentioned in your other posts), he definitely prescribes spiro, he talks a lot about how great it is on his website.
If that isn't possible right now, you can try an online consultation with a doctor. I'm not talking buying meds from some sketchy pharmacy in India. It is perfectly legal to get a consultation with a doctor online or over the phone and have him prescribe certain medications. You can't get controlled substances like Accutane from this, but you may be able to get meds like spiro. I haven't tried it myself, but I know that spiro is not a controlled substance.

I have severe cystic acne they stick around for like a year before they are gone, I have tried everything on the market and then some. When I saw this product I was like why not I need to be able to say I tried it. Usually the products work for me for a few days I will feel some relief but then it starts to wear off.
I felt results in the first time using it, I still have a cyst on my chin that looks like it going to be around but I have been putting extra treatment on it I am not sure if that is ok.
I agree with Green gables. I am not on BCP and i was prescribed Spiro, not by a derm but my Endocrinologist but what difference does it make whether your on BC or not. I don't know about that derm. I would switch. I had one who was so old school and did not care about what I had to say so I said ''screw you'' and 2 weeks later I got a new one. lol
Did you experience any problems with blood pressure on spiro? How do you monitor yours?
I haven't had any blood pressure problems. I don't monitor it, but then I haven't had any side effects that would point to low blood pressure.
If spiro didn't work for you, you could try Flutamide, which is a prescription anti-androgen similar to spiro than doesn't lower blood pressure.
Do you think low blood pressure could be remedied by diet? I read once that you were on the Paleo diet. I am a poor college kid and mostly nibble on junk food. I wonder if I could start Spiro again if I changed my eating habits.
There are so many factors that go into blood pressure that I have no idea.
While I definitely recommend the Paleo diet for general health, I have no idea if it will raise your blood pressure or not.
I highly recommend you read this article on hormones and other ways you can stop hormonal acne.
Green Gables..
I am also on Spiro (mixed with minocylcine and Retin A). How many months in did you notice that your skin was getting better? When was your face (pretty much) clear?
End of month 3 / beginning of month 4 on 100mg of spiro I finally said hey...my left cheek and my chin are a little clearer than normal.
Thank you so much for replying. Are you still clear to this day??? I am on my almost 1 month mark of spiro and am getting do frusterated! Ahhhh! I went on Accutane when I was in high school because I had really bad cystic acne on my cheeks... But now that I am 22, my acne is coming back, but on my chin and jawline and some cystic on my cheeks. Patience is key I guess! Ahhh!

Yep, still 100% clear, it's amazing
Hi I am a guy and was wondering if there are any males who have tried this and succeeded. Is this prescription only drug? Because I think my dermatologist hates me so I may have to find another dermatologist if that's the case.
If you search on these boards for spironolactone you will find a few men who have tried it successfully. It is a bit difficult to get this prescribed for acne as a man though.
There are other options for men which I explained in my first post.
Hey Green Gables,
I read your post and The Low Progesterone - High Androgen Connection To Acne thread, which are both very insightful!
I think the low progesterone part is causing me to break out more than I ever have in my entire life, when usually, I get a pimple here or there and it goes away after a week. My problem, I think, mainly stems from stress due to my job and while I think quitting this job will help, I can't really do that right now.
So my acne isn't as intense as some other people's here but I think (?) it's the "severe" kind.. I've only been to a derm appointment once and never got a diagnosis of what kind of acne it was but from reading this site, I think it's cyst or nodules since they are usually under the skin, like a lump. When not a big lump, in certain lights, it looks bumpy (small bumps) in one part of my chin. And it's mainly my chin too, everywhere else is fine (except my forehead as of recent with one or two similar lumps that stay around for awhile)
Anyhow I've attached some pictures.
What are your thoughts, should just go with the progesterone creme route or ask about getting a prescription of spironolactone, if it looks severe enough? I don't have a regular dermatologist and when I visited him that one time, it took a month so figured I'd ask here.
rockthecasbah- thats the same kind of acne i get get. chin/jawline. mostly the bumps under the skin kind. always kinda inflamed/red. i havent had much success with anything at this point except antibiotics i took twice in the last two years but they only really worked when i was on them...im hoping removal of dairy might help me since i seen to breakout after eating it.

Yes, I would get tons of those nasty little buggers.
Since getting spironolactone prescribed sometimes takes doctor hopping, you may want to try natural progesterone cream first. Not all NPCs are created the same. The only ones I would recommend are Beeyoutiful Balance and Progestelle. For first-time users I'd recommend the Beeyoutiful Balance because it's very user-friendly, they have an organized dosage guide at that link, and if you have any questions their support staff will answer emails within the day.
NPC can also help with sleep and stress, which the spiro won't do.
Remember that hormone changes take time. I've explained this in another post, but here it is again:
A positive hormonal change does not "wipe out" existing acne. It creates a harmonious environment where new acne won't be formed. But your existing acne will still have to resolve. I'll say this again. The right dose of spiro or progesterone will PREVENT new acne from forming but it will not affect existing lesions on your face. I personally stopped topicals on spiro because I wanted to make sure the spiro was working. But it's not the ideal route because it took a long time for all my existing acne to resolve "naturally" so I could enjoy the new spiro-clear skin. So, if you want to speed the process, by all means keep using whatever topicals work for you (BP, salicylic acid, etc.).
