severe adult acne sufferer here. several doctors pretty much gave up on me. i tried most medicines, but nothing works.

erythromicin - doesn't do anything

doxycycline - doesn't do anything either

benzoyl peroxide - can't take it and doesn't work

salicylic acid - probably the best, but not enough

and a bunch of supplements.

in good health otherwise. perfect blood levels. healthy diet. plenty of exercise.

but terrible skin.

anyone have any ideas?

male or female? if you're female you can try spironolactone.

male.

one doctor said i had too many male hormones and i'd have to wait until i was 50 for clear skin.

No one should have to live with acne and if that is the best advice that your derm can give you, you need to find another derm. Search around and see what supplements are recommended for reducing the excess hormones you have (you may want to post this inquiry in the holistic section). Also, while you are working that out, get to a derm so that you can prevent further scaring which in some cases can be even worse than the actual acne itself.

Have you ever tried retinoids:

differin

tretinoin

tazorac

These may be viable options that may or may not help you but you won't know until you try

there is a girl on you tube that had really bad acne and she was on retin a and doxy and her rimprovement has been pretty stellar. Check her out at the link below

Good Luck in your search for finding what works for you

right before i came here, a derm suggested that. but it looks dangerous. there has to be something better.

ichthammol works the best for me, but it isn't perfect.

sometimes i feel like i don't need to prevent pimples, but to make them heal faster.

v

one doctor said it was sugar. the others dismissed it.

one doctor said it was fatty foods. the others dismissed it.

one doctor said it was the fluoride in toothpaste. the others dismissed it.

one doctor said it was the acid in my fruit. the others dismissed it.

eventually, they say it's my hormones, give up on me and tell me to wait until i'm 50.

why isn't there anything that works? seems so lucrative...
