Hello everyone!!
I just had to join this forum to thank everyone for the posts and threads that helped me cure my 6 year battle against acne. I had sometimes mild sometimes moderate/severe acne. I haven't had a clear day since I was 15 and now I'm 21...
I wasn't actively trying to get to the root of my acne until 2 months ago. I guess all these years I just figured it was teenage hormones and things had to run their course. Golly, I wish I had done an internet search and found this website years ago!! Would have save me many hours of grief and worry about my face.
Well, onto my regimen that cleared me:
I searched the internet and tips and tricks to get clear naturally.... decided I definitely wanted to go that way (NO accutane for me). I tried honey masks, egg white masks, ACV, fruit cleansers, changing my pillow case every night, baking soda exfoliate.... nothing truly worked, although some of those made my face feel very smooth and soft.
A little bit of back story: I'm not a super healthy eater although I try, but there are times when I will go a week without veggies or fruits, and it's been like that since I was 15/16 year old. Lots of breads and candy junk. I have always eaten really fast (really fast!) and not chewed my food very well, which, of course, led to indigestion (belching, "bubbly" stomach, gas). I never really cared about it, until I read it might have something to do with my face. I started to chew my food and not gulp tons of cold water while I was eating. My stomach thanked me!
About two months ago I started taking vitamins regularly.
Daily:
Vitamin E 400IU
Vitamin D3 1000IU - this helps my mood tremendously!
zinc - 50 mg
L-Lysine plus B6 1000mg
B-complex
And after reading recently (three weeks ago) about leaky guts (which I think that I had) I started with 3 Aloe Vera pills a couple times a day on an empty stomach. Also a Digestive Enzyme supplement with lunch and dinner.
But, none of those really helped (though I think the Aloe vera did). I read about ph balance affecting your health, most of all your skin....so to start it off I started drinking a warm LEMON WATER cleanser in the morning to try to detox and balance my ph. Lemon is very acidic but once digested it alkalizes your body. I would squeeze the juice from a whole lemon, or sometimes I would use RealLemon in the plastic bottle, mixed with a full glass of water. Then I worked out on my treadmill for half an hour and drank my lemon juice. I did this early in the morning. I started to wake up at the same time each morning and go through the same routine to help possibly balance my hormones (if they were out of whack, I don't know).
After the lemon water and the workout then I waited 20 minutes before drinking a cup of warm green or peppermint tea, sweetened with Truvia, and ate dried apricots and organic yogurt with honey. I didn't watch my sugar intake, I just tried to eat alkalizing foods as much as possible. I definitely didn't stick to a strict diet, except for in the mornings. I did and ate the same thing each morning.
The lemon juice totally purged my body. I'm telling you, it was like I had a whole new "inside" me. I started "going" very regular. Once, sometimes twice everyday. After a few days I noticed that there wasn't anymore smell to my poop and it lightened in color. This is weird, but it now looks "clean"! lol
Meanwhile, my skin purged, too. I had a big breakout. Lots of tiny pimples across my forehead, and 4-6 big pimples around my mouth and jawline. It took about four days of drinking the lemon water to start breaking out. My whole face was itchy! It drove me nuts!
I got so fed up with the breakout! But I kept going with the lemon drink, hoping that is was just a purge. It was. I started the EPSOM SALTS about a week into my two week long breakout. I love epsom salts!! I take a warm bath with two cups of epsom salts every night. Every other day I scrub very, very gently with the salts and water. On the big, lingering pimples I clumped a bit of watery epsom salts and left it there to dry and draw out the yucky stuff. It WORKED. My pimples dried up and went away. That was two weeks ago. Now, all I have is a couple red marks and those are fading sooooooo fast because I still drink the lemon juice and bath/scrub with epsom salts. Sometimes I use a egg white/lemon juice mask on for 20 minutes at night and then rinse off....that fades the marks super fast, too.
My daily regimen:
Morning:
Wake up and spritz with a 100% Pure Rose water toner or sometimes ACV
Shower
Jojoba or Grapeseed oil as moisturizer (I have always had very dry skin)
Mineral make-up
Night:
Wash face with fruit cleanser
Coconut oil to remove eye make-up
Soak in warm bath with two cups of epsom salt. I sleep so good now! Sometimes I skip a day with this, though.
Every other day scrub GENTLY with epsom salts mixed but not all the way dissolved with warm water.
More Grapeseed oil
If I'm trying to heal a red mark or dying pimple I will sleep with some Manuka honey dabbed on the spot.
I couldn't be happier! My complexion is bright, even and it glows! My face is 100% CLEAR (I NEVER thought I would see the day that I would type that!) and I have the people on this board to thank for giving me all the ideas in bits and pieces! Hope I can help someone else with my loooong post. lol
HI!!! I just read your post and I was absolutely amazed by your story. I just wanted to know how long you were using epsom salts before your acne disappeared? Would it result to reoccurring acne? You see, I still have some acne (small ones on my forehead and some on my jawline and a little bit on my cheeks), but most of them are gone but I still suffer from facial redness (which I think is from the tea tree oil acne soap and topicals I've been using) and post-acne scars. Did you also suffer from scars and facial redness? If so, how did you manage to eliminate them? I also decided to use natural elements to clear my face from acne (from topicals and intakes).
And I want to have my old skin tone back. Because of acne and the previous treatments I had, I have now 3 uneven skin tones (I have a white skin tone on the areas where I sued to have acne, I also have some facial redness of some parts of my face which at times cannot be cleared and the remaining is my normal skin tone.) It's a real problem!!
Looking forward to your reply! Hope we can be friends!
Oh yeah, Congratulations on your winning battle with acne!!
Thanks you guys!
Pathetic_26 - I do have a few red marks left over(but they are fading fast)....no scars though because I was never a picker. The epsom salts were very helpful in "finishing" up a pimple's course and my face starting looking better after the second day of using them. You know, those pimples that just like to hang around forever? The epsom salts dried them up and started the healing process much faster. The salts have "drawing" power so there will be some pus and yucky stuff pulled out of the pimple after the first or second time using the epsom salts on my face. When the salts drew the pimple out into a head, I popped them to release it all, then applied more salty water to continue the healing.
For facial redness and unevenness, nothing helped me better than the egg white/lemon mask. It's wonderful! Use the white of one egg and a teaspoon of squeezed lemon juice..... whip it together with a fork and then smear it on your clean face. Let it dry (it will get really tight) for twenty minutes. Then rinse with cold water. My skin is very ''even'' after this mask!!
AshleyNicole - Thank you! I'm glad it inspired you to look it up! I spent a few nights reading and reading about other peoples stories on other forums. So glad I found the info.
I think that it was the lemon juice that did the trick. Using epsom salts on my face just helped to clean up my pimples that were already there, I feel. Bathing in the salts really helps, though. The sulfur and magnesium is absorbed into the body and just feels very relaxing and cleansing. Great detox!!
The lemon juice is amazing. Working out lightly, and replenishing first thing in the morning my body's fluids that I lost all night long with water....that is part of it, too. But, the lemons keep my liver and colon clean....I feel really great in the morning since I started this routine! After drinking the full cup of lemon water, my skin looks amazing. Plump and glowy. I wouldn't have thought it could work that fast but it does.
I purged for about a week and a half.....then I started the epsom salts and the breakout was over by the end of the second week. I would highly recommend using the lemon drink and epsom salts together! Both bathing in them and using them for a facial "scrub". Scrub is such a harsh word, but I'm NOT scrubbing. Gently wiping my face with not quite dissolved salts in warm water. If there are active pimples on my face, I'll leave a clump of salts on the spot to dry. My skin feels tight and dry when I do that, but as soon as I rinse it off and apply grapeseed oil or jojoba oil....it feels back to normal and smooth.
I'm happy to answer any more questions with my routine!! Hope my info helps!! Thanks so much!
Let me ask you this: Has anyone ever told you that you are amazingly fabulous?! If this was twitter, I would definitely follow you (LOL). My acne scars resulted from the pricking when I used to go to my dermatologists. I was under the House of Pain for many months, though it cleared my acne (and came back!) it did result to scars. And I still have them!
I never thought of considering epsom salt as a helpful substance in clearing acne. So if ever I may use epsom salt, I'll have to dissolve it in lukewarm water? My mom used to have epsom salt. She used it for bathing as well but not for facial care. Its texture is so rough.
My current problem is my uneven skin tone and the scars I have. Some of the acne I can live with, but not with those two. It's driving me crazy.
Regarding with the egg white/lemon facial mask, I read somewhere that using this routine is a great way to have a clear face and not only that, it also lessens the chances of wrinkles. So I'm intrigued with your results on this one. I may consider doing likewise. But when you this mask, how long did it take your skin tone to be even? Btw, are you still taking intakes? This is my last month on zinc. I've been taking them for atleast 6months and I have to stop.
My current regimen for facial wash using loose teabags and dipping it in lukewarm-cold water. I was told by an officemate during my internship that she also suffered from acne. And with all the chemicals she had been applying over her face, she felt that it would need antioxidants as well. So she tried using the teabag thing and it worked for her.
I hope mine will disappear like yours did. I hate acne.
Gosh! I will definitely try your recommendations! You've been such a great help! If I still have other questions, would you mind if I ask you?
What kind of mineral makeup do you use?
I stopped using "Youngblood loose mineral makeup" last week because I just found out about
bismuth oxychloride in the makeup. People say that it can cause itching and cystic acne.
bismuth oxychloride is listed as the 2nd ingredient in the makeup.
I am going to see if the makeup is the cause of my cystic acne.
I would like to know what brand of mineral makeup you use.
BTW: Youngblood is awesome makeup, minus the bismuth oxychloride.
the coverage has been bar-non and gives you a nice glow.
However, I will have to depart and use another makeup brand.

Haha, all the things you mentioned that you were trying are things I am currently trying.
I am going to try the lemon drink every morning and see if it helps. I may skip the epsom salt, though, unless you think it was especially helpful.
May I ask what brand/s of makup you use?
I use a mineral makeup from Avon called smooth minerals. I like it..... but if you have dry skin I wouldn't recommend it because it doesn't love to go on very smoothly on dry skin, but if you don't then it's great. Definitely doesn't break me out.
I am still clear but have gotten a couple tiny zits, almost like whiteheads, around my mouth and chin. I still think it's because of my indigestion. My stomach gets very bloated and rumbly and gassy after I eat anything. Not gulping water and actually chewing my food has helped tremendously but I think there was something else missing.
So, I started taking acidophilus pearls and tummy tune-up from Beeuotiful. I am clearing up completely again. My stomach has calmed down a TON!! No more gas and belching. Feels great.
My feeling is that digestion has a lot to do with my acne. I used (and still do) the lemon water for a liver/colon cleanse. I used epsom salts to clear up my break-out, and I use Acidophilus to keep my stomach under control. I'm CLEAR!!
I'll update if anything changes.
I'm going to go buy some epsom salt before work later. I love having a nice relaxing bath!
I started drinking lemon water yesterday and applying it to my face before bed. My spots have shrunken by this morning, still a long way to go though.
Thanks for the epsom salt idea, I'll be trying them tomorrow morning .
Does it have to be epsom salt? Would lemon juice and regular salt do any help? Also do you think it should/has to be natural 100% lemon juice or could it be regular lemon juice from a bottle .. I didn't understand if its that you would mix the salt in the lemon juice and then put it on your face or you would put just salt on your face.. If you could please explain better exactly what it was and how you were putting it on your face...
& about drinking warm water and lemon juice.. were you saying that when you started doing that at first you broke out more?
thank you so much for sharing!
this gives me abit of optimism.. i started doing the warm lemon water on saturday and today i have broken out a ridiculous amount! i mean my whole face is covered in large swollen cysts... going off the fact it made you break out too i will continue to try it and hope by next week things are clearing up!
Hello,
I am also 32 years old now and still struggling with my acne more then ever I feel no further ahead then when I was in high school so I just took your recipe and made a face mask is there anything else to mix in with it to make it a more thicker texture it was really runny putting it on but it did seem to mostly dry up. Also how many days a week would you say to do an Epsom salt bath with the face mask? I have a mild break out currently and have been on herpanacine for a week now. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Congrats on your clear skin!! I so wish that could be me
