I have been noticing this for a while, but now that I am off the meds it has become very aparent to me that when I have a breakout wearing sunscreen for 24 hours straight seems to reduce the inflamation and subside the acne. I am not the type who pays too much attention to things like this but this didn't escape me.
Personally I can't think of any other reasons for this other than the hight concentration of Zinc Oxide in my sunscreens.
I am very tempted to try this by staying off meds and wearing sunscreen at all times. I was thinking of my synthetic one during the day and an organic one at night and see how things go. Both product having high % of Zinc Oxide.
Has anyone observed anything similar to this??
Interesting. Zinc has been shown to improve acne. And it is very healing. What kind of sunscreens do you use(brand names?). And percentage of Zinc Oxide is in them?
I have heard ppl say it helps their rosacea. The zinc has a calming effect.
I use L'Occitane's Velvet Fluid SPF40+ which I just noticed has more titanium dioxide than zinc oxide, and UV Natural SPF30+ this one has 245mg/g Zinc Oxide.
i have noticed the same. I used the acne free mosturizer that came with some car repair kit. It didn't work, but i loved the mosturizer, that i would buy the entire thing just to get the mosturizer. It had a high percentage of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. And i noticed my acne improved using it. And it felt nice and made makeup go on nicely. I miss it.
i know this is an old post..but if anyone is still interested!
zinc oxide is said to heal zits/bumps etc caused by fungal folliculitis; just like bp/clindamycin phosphate heal bacterial folliculitis.
this is the only explaination i have right now.
i'm trying to figure out as much as i can these days.
sunscreen is a must for acne-prone skin and those with PIH.
zinc oxide is a physical block which is non-comedogenic unlike titanium oxide.
so i personally think one should avoid sunscreens with titanium oxide.and go for ones which has both chemical barriers + zinc oxide(the physical barrier which is not absorbed by the skin).
zinc oxide give a white pale look.which is a problem for many.
but i'm told that now a days there are brands that omit the disadvantage.
personally, the one i use gives a a white look but that doesnt look bad.so i'm not complaining.
i've been trying to find out if zinc oxide in sunscreen has any effect on acne like those in diaper-rash creams or the raw form(mixed or not).
am glad to hear about a positive result here.
