ok so when ii first started using differin it made me break out alot (of course) but after a couple months it made my skin almost 100% clear.. but now it stopped working and my skin is worse than it was when i first started :/ did my skin just get use to it so it stopped working?

Anyone else have this problem with differin?

Differin was probably one of the first things my doctor recommended me to get. My acne was pretty bad though so Differin really didn't do much. I'm no dermatologist but I don't think the problem is that your skin got used to it. It could be something with your hormones that made you break out all of sudden so I would try something a bit stronger.

same thing happened to me.

:(

so bummed out! i forgot what it was like to worry about my face all the time.

i actually jsut called my doctor, told her the situation, and she bumped up my differin to .3% gel. maybe try that? (i'm assuming you're on .1) i also use the topical antibiotic clindamycin with my differin.

i used differin for 5 mos. it was summer that time. Breakouts occur but i kept on using it. But when autumn starts, the irritation also starts! Redness on my cheeks, swollen eyelids, itchy face but the results was good! I mean the good side was NO PIMPLES were occuring that time. But when i'd stopped using it. Because of the irritation(it got days for my skin to be normal again and the dermatologist gave me medicines because she said i have an allergic reaction. She's a japanese and i don't quite understand what she says.)My pimples are back again-.-.then i tried it again yesterday, irritation occurs. What am i gonna do to get rid of the bad effects?I don't want to discontinue it because the result has a good effects

Same thing happened to me too! I switched to a stronger retinoid (Tazorac) which seems to be helping a ton!

anyone who has switched to a different retinoid, did you experience another initial breakout? or if you've consistantly been on one for a long time will you just progress or continue to have no change (hopefully not)

That's the thing with acne medication. They stop working after a while. You need to talk with your Derm and reevaluate more options.

I did experience another initial breakout...however it was so small in comparison to the one I had when starting the first retinoid I was on. I think this happened because the retinoid I switched to was stronger. Or maybe it wasn't an initial breakout but just breakouts continuing until the stronger retinoid kicked in.

thanks. I guess since there is a collection of retinoid users here, i should ask. did any of you see improvement when BP was discontinued? assuming a few things (you used bp in the past for one) Right now I'm on epiduo which works great sometimes but then i'll have 3 months where it seems to do nothing. anyway, seeing has how this is not desirable i'd like to find something else. I dont know if it is the BP or the retinoid in the medicatio nthat made the initial change (went from always having some kind of break out to going months and months with nothing but a couple zits of no big worry) but i used BP alone for a few years with basically mediocre results. epiduo seemed to be a pretty big improvement for a while... well now it seems that may no longer be the case. this fall my face went nuts. granted, i had stopped using epiduo on most of my face because it was not needed. those areas (cheeks mostly) began breaking out like crazy and they are now under control but i have been on doxy script that i had lying around and i dont know if the epiduo is working or if it is the AB. i also got back on clindamycin.. ugh... ok... anyway.

i guess i'm looking for advice.. sorry if this derails the OP just ignore me if this is rude. but i need some options and dont really know where to go from here if all the improvement lately is just AB and will stop when it is discontinued. if that is the case then i'll need to know where i'm headed. thanks

Well personally I didn't see any improvement from Epiduo...that was the first retinoid I was on back in 2011 and it wrecked havoc on my skin. Before Epiduo I just used straight up BP and it worked to clear up minor breakouts but then stopped. And with Epiduo being 2.5% BP and .1% Adapalene (the retinoid part) it just wasn't strong enough for my skin. When I switched over to Differin, 3% Adapalene, my skin responded TREMENDOUSLY, which kinda hinted at the idea that it was the retinoid doing it for me, not BP. But unfortunately, like stated earlier, Differin stopped working for me after two months. Now I'm trying Tazorac .05% along with Doryx, which is just an antibiotic. Honestly I don't think that I would be seeing these results from Tazorac without the antibiotic. It's helped speed up the process. Everyone's skin is different though, it'll take some trial and error until you find what works for you. Plus it depends on the severity of your acne. Stronger stuff is needed for more severe acne. And you're not being rude :) we all are looking for advice.
