i have been through many different acne treatments, and feel i have come to the conclusion that dry skin is the cause of it. I have tried differin and duac topical gels, and have used the rotten smelling cephaxalin pills. None worked. My skin has been especially dry this winter. If i wash my face with any face wash, after my face becomes completely dry and flaky. It hurts pretty bad because my skin is like scales. I recently read that skin shedding too fast causes acne. Is this my problem? i wake up every morning to 5-10 new pimples/nodules that hurt. I always make sure my skin is clean and don't touch my face with anything dirty, so i don't think its bacteria. I put lotion on my face 2-3 times a day to help fight the dryness but that doesn't help the acne at all. After i take a shower, pretty much my entire body is dry, but my face and hands especially. Any suggestions?

well, dry & dead skin can clog pores (along with dirt and sebum) and become infected.

Is your skin *really* dry, or just dehydrated? Here's how you know: if you squeeze your pores, are they empty or is there sebum in there? If there's sebum, your skin is dehydrated. This means it's not able to retain any moisture. I had this problem, and cured it with a glycolic acid face wash - with a week, my pores purged (sort of like my skin blew it's nose), and then a sort of dead layer of skin peeled off, revealing healthy pink skin underneath. I moisturize right after my shower with a cream containing hyraluronic (sp?) acid, which helps skin to retain moisture. All of this I got from a licensed aesthetician. If dehydration seems to be the culprit, find a good aesthetician in your area for a consult. I went from several cysts a week, to maybe one a month.

If your skin is actually dry (pores are empty), use a really mild wash, find a good moisturizer and apply right after the shower. Drink tons of water, and keep a humidifier going at all times. A good aesthetician can help with this, as well.

What face wash and moisturizer did you find? It sounds like the exact problem I have!
