at what density did he do the setting of 23 on you?

125. It didn't really hurt, but I definitely felt theheat in my face on theway home! I woke up this morning to an already browner face, some pinpoint scabs and some itty bitty white blisters. Maybe this time I'll actually flake. Last time the downtime really wasn't much to speak of.

Chrissy, You must have a huge pain tolerance! Congrats on finally getting your 2nd one done. Keep us posted!

I don't think of myself as having huge pain tolerance at all. They give me tylenol and motrin beforehand, and I'm all about the cooling machine! Today is Day 3. The redness is enough to make me want to stay home. If I put on makeup it looks more normal, but looks like "why is she wearing so much makeup?". Plus the weather out here has been horrible so it's not like I can pull off the whole sunburn thing. I would have had to go to the Bahamas to get a burn like this! The temples look especially raw, and he barely did any passes there. I keep expecting someone to say something to me, but I guess they're too polite!

Has anybody else gotten little brown spots on their face after fraxel (almost like freckles)? I've only had 1 fraxel so far and have 3 of these tiny spots. I'm wondering what's going on.

Hi bluekit, I have had 5 Fraxels, and I haven't gotten any brown spots, just a fewi small indentations that I'm not thrilled with. When do you see your doctor next?

Hi Brian,

You mean you've also had brown spots or are you talking about indentations?

Thanks,

bluekit

Hi cubsfan,

I had my first treatment on March 17th and was supposed to go in for my second treatment on March 31, but they had to reschedule. So, now I'm going in for my second treatment on April 14th. I also started breaking-out after my first treatment, but that's pretty much under control from antibiotics the doctor prescribed me. I went to see the dr. because I was breaking-out and she said some people break-out after fraxel and some people don't. I forgot to ask her about the "freckles" though. I know that they weren't there before. Maybe though, I had a red spot there that the fraxel turned brown. I really don't know, but it makes me a bit anxious about what's going to happen after my second treatment (more brown spots?).

So far I'm still happy with the results from my first fraxel. I looked terrible for almost a week which in itself was healing for me. I was forced to go out in public with my face looking bad, my hair in a ponytail (because I couldn't stand my long hair brushing my cheeks) and face the world. No one ran away shrieking, no one looked at me funny, in fact no one seemed to care at all. Facing my fear of facing the world with bad skin has boosted my confidence a ton.

As far as results: My skin still looks plumper and younger. In fact I have gotten carded three out of the four times I've gone out for a drink. I rarely rarely rarely get carded anymore. My husband rolled his eyes, shook his head in disbelief, and started laughing when the waitress asked for my ID and I gave him the "see its working" look.

Don't get down, Guys. Three out of four waitresses agree, Fraxel makes you look younger and sexier!

FRECKLES? FRAXEL IS SUPPOSED TO REDUCE PHOTODAMAGE--NOT CAUSE IT!!!

ARE THERE ANY OTHER SIDE EFFECTS ANYONE HAS NOTICED?

PLEASE TELL ME NOW BEFORE I GO FOR TREATMENT!

tmthymllgn, Don't worry, I'm sure it will be fine. I haven't heard of anybody else on here having bad problems from it. The few small indentations I've gotten are getting smaller and I'm confident they'll smooth out completely.

I had my first fraxel today. My dermatologist says I have mild acne scars and would benefit from the fraxel laser. I thought I had a pretty high tolerace for pain, but the procedure was much more uncomfortable than I imagined. My settings were only at 12/250 and I had only 2 passes, except for 3 where my scarring was prominent. My expereience with the Fraxel was that it felt like somebody was pulling my hair out at the roots. The pain was at its worst on my forehead and on my chin. However, now that I know what it feels like, I guess I will be more prepared next time, although we will be going up in energy. Anyways, I noticced some discoloration (spots) on the right side of my face. I am not sure if these are the brown spots that others are referring to, or if it is the residual blue dye, or if it is brusing. Anyways, will keep everybody updated.

for those of you who've finished their last fraxel treatment, have any of you noticed gradual improvement of scars as the months went by (since collagen remodeling is supposedly occuring till 6 months)?

SO today is Saturday. I had my treatment Wednesday afternoon. Wow, Iam still red! Starting to turn brown, but still pretty dang red. My scars look good, but of course it's the swelling and leathery skin thing that's hiding them. If they look like this after I finish my treatments, I'll be satisfied. My husband says itlookslike Iwent on a fishing trip two days ago. I said "what about the scars?" He looked at me closely and said, "They're gone". OK, they look about 75% better, but they're not gone. And of course we'll see what happens when all the swelling goes away.

I got a couple of "freckles" - I'm using a bleaching cream prescribed by my doc for hyperpigmentation. I asked if I should be looking for freckles as an indicator of hyperpigmentation - he said no, but an overall browness.

Man...one time my smoothbeam session went wrong (probably went too aggressive...setting 15 and i did glycolic peel less than a week before that...BAD BAD BAD). I ended up with about 30 brown spots all over my face. It took me almost a month to get rid of them using hydroquinone 4% and some fruit mask peel.

I cannot imagine if I do Fraxel, it might be worse.

To everybody who has gotten "freckles" after fraxel:

I'm trying to recall if I had a red spot (before the fraxel) where the brown spot now is (after the fraxel). I think that might be the case.

Do any of you remember a red spot being where the brown spot now is?

I'm going to talk to my doctor about the "freckles" when I go in for my second session and see if this is common and what the cause is.

Fraxel was a big waste of money for me, maybe even damaged my skin.. should have never done it.

It's been 3+ weeks since my 4th Fraxel and more than 3 months since my 1st one. I have not seen any improvements, infact I am almost certain that my skin is worse now. As far as pores, pretty much every pore on my face is visible, scarred and pigmented red. I was assured that it would help with the pores, never mind the scars I have. I have very shallow, red, surface scars (few icepicks) and hte rest are scarred pores.. but it seems like my pores are more visible than ever. I read before that Fraxel may expose pores more, and i should have listened. It only looks nice a couple of weeks after the treatment.. then you go back to normal. My face might infact look worse now and I paid $6000 for it. I think I should have seen some improvement by now but the red marks and everything else is still there. I still have 1 more treatment left which is scheduled in another month. We'll see what happens then but I have almost no hope for any change at this point. Should have never done this shit, because its harsh and damages the skin.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. My doctor said that fraxel would actually help reduce my pore size. It seems that a lot of people on this thread are having different fraxel experiences and are reporting conflicting information regarding what they're told by their doctors.

Who/what office performed your fraxel?

This is my 3rd post and I had my 1st Fraxel a few days ago. I must admit I am a little nervous now. Right now I still have some brown discoloration on the right side of my face. I have also noticed many small vertical lines on my nose, forehead, chin, etc. I will add that I had what was categorized as mild acne scars and was very optimistic about this procedure.

I am asian, and was treated at a lower level than other patients (12/250 and 2 passes). I was given hydroquinolone cream and was told to use it starting on day 3. Maybe I am just being overanxious and worried, but I am not sure if I am having hyperpigmentation or having a bad reaction because I am asian. The first doctor I saw recommended a series of treatments with cooltouch III and the sciton microlaser peel, and I am wondering now (regret?) if I should have gone that route. The first doctor did not have the fraxel laser, so after doing reseatch, it seemed that fraxel was the way to go. Again, it has only been a couple of days, and maybe this is normal healing, etc. but my skin definitely looks worse and I am quite concerend. Sorry for the long post. Just feeling a little insecure right now. Will keep everybody updated.

If they look like brown spots (kinda almost like burn after you do TCA) yes, I have experienced the same thing from smoothbeam, it took me a month using hydroquinone bleaching those spots out...I took out about 99% of the spots (only one or two left near my hairline but that's not too bad).

Fraxel won't because the controlled damage done is beneath the skin no on the surface.

Just wanted to say that after many many tried and failed procedures, I decided to go for the Fraxel. My appointment on Saturday went great. My PS first numbed my face using injections. He then used a setting of 20/1250. He only did my cheeks and his nurse held the zimmer cooling machine. I love that thing. It is awesome!!! Anway, I am sooooo swollen!!! My skin never really looked really red. Today my cheeks are very dry and tight. I will keep everyone updated. BTW...my PS really thinks that the fraxel is an awesome procedure for scars and he is really excited about it. He even said that in some patients, over 5 treatments he possible remove the scars.

I had my 6th and last Fraxel today. He went up to 24/125 on my whole face. He did 4 passes on my whole face, except he did 3 passes on my forehead because the skin is thinner there. I am very swollen already, and my face is burning like you know what. The gel he put on after the blue dye was to make the tip glide smoother. He told me there is a new Fraxel laser coming out next month that is going to be awsome. It has a cold tip on it so the pain is much less, and then they can put it on higher settings, which is supposed to help stimulate more collagen. Also, no more blue dye!! The pre laser work will be a lot shorter. Of course this has to come out after I go through this. Well, I'm pretty sure I'll be going back in the fall for a few more, and it would be great to have it less painful. Has anybody else heard of this?

I had it done by Dr Rokhsar in NYC. They say he's the top doctor with Fraxel, along with Fitzpatrick. They were actually fellow/in college together or something working with Reliant tech developing fraxel...

anyways, hasn't done anything for me.. quite possibly worsened my skin.. not sure how this stuff works at all... I'm dissappointed in the whole healthcare system all together now, how can they charge such insane amounts for something that doesn't even work all the time, if at all? i guess to some of these docs, $6000 isn't a lot of $ at all, while for some people it's a very significant amount. I consulted with a few doctors and they all assure that everyone sees an improvement of some sort with fraxel, usually about 50%.. but i haven't heard of anyone actually seeing a 50% improvement. I don't know how they are allowed to mislead patients about results. It's blatant robbery in my eyes...
