this is my left side which is my worst side.First off thanks for posting pics. How many fraxel treatments are you planning on having? I ask because I have 2 very similar scars to yours and am planning on having fraxel done myself, they look like rolling scars that seem worse when looked at angles or shade. In the second photo you can barely see the scarring once seen at full view.
Has anyone had any success with this type of scarring after undergoing fraxel?
Hi nate28,
I had scarring like sherlock along with ice pick and box scars. I had scarring like her left cheek but a lot worse and more deeper in some areas on my right cheek. The ice pick scars I have were more concentrated right above both of my cheeks. I also have a box scar on my chin along a lot rolling scars. My chin is now smooth, with the exception of my box scar and a deep shallow scar.
I've had 3 fraxel2 treatments and I've had the best improvement on the scars just like sherlock's. Some of the scars are gone and some are still there. They seem to be filling in. Many of the areas of my face are smooth, but you can still see some of the scares.
I plan on posting pictures, but want to wait for my 5th treatment.
that's encouraging to hear. 🙂
Hi....I have a question for anyone and everyone who has had Fraxel laser done. I have mild scarring all over my cheeks but since I have oily skin it tends to be more obvious throughout the day. I am getting my first Fraxel treatment done and I have to admit I am really nervous. Mainly because I don't know how it will look. I have taken off almost a week for recovery but I'm just wondering how bad you really look during those days after treatment. Also, how long did it take before you felt completely back to normal? I am going to a wedding in Florida 2.5 weeks after I get the Fraxel done. Will I be back to normal, skin tone and color, by then? I can't tell you how much I would appreciate any thoughts, feedback or answers from anyone else that has been through Fraxel treaments!!!
I was wondering if fillers would work on the type of scarring sherlock had or is fraxel a better bet?
i have used fillers for years and yes it does work. i just got tired of having to go in every couple months for a "filling" and so i wanted to try something different to see if it would work. i have used both collagen and restylane as fillers. the restylane is very painful going in, and swells to look like cystic acne for about a week or longer BUT it lasts longer than the collagen. i used the collagen mostly. i have also done microdermabrasion, IPL, peels and none of them have worked. i've used vitamin c serums, retin A products...the retin A did plump my skin up a bit but not as much as i wanted and when i stopped using it the scars went back to normal.
this is my left side which is my worst side.I had scars that look like that too (wavy like). I still have them but they are more smooth and leveled. But the first picture remind me of what I use to look like when I took pictures in the same angle. It will look better once you have new collagen produced in those depressed areas.
that is encouraging. thanks!

Your downtime depends on how high of settings your doctor uses--the higher the setting, the longer the recovery. Although in my case, I didn't think recovery is that bad. You should get it done on a Friday so you have the weekend to reover. Also, some people take longer to recover than others. The redness gets better as each day goes on along with the swelling. I usually get it done on a Friday and by Tuesday I go back to work. I look red, but it's like a sun burn red. (Not too bad.) It's the peeling and sometimes breakouts that look ugly. But like I said, by Tuesday, I'm healed. Nobody can even tell at work that I got it done. The swelling can be bad the first 3 days. When I wake up in the morning, I don't even look like myself. I believe by 2.5 weeks you won't even be able to tell you had a treatment, with the exception of smoother skin. 😀

Thank YOU SO MUCH for the encouragement! Are the breakouts bad? Lots of them? How long does it take to go away? thanks again for the helpful info. and encouragement!

that's so strange...that's where i got them too after the fraxel. it seems to be the only place i do break out lately. i wonder why that is? although i am not complaining...it's better than all over i suppose.

i agree with sandy that you will be fine after 2.5 weeks. also, ask your doctor to put you on an oral antibiotic like tetracycline during your treatments. my doc told me to take it a week before till a week after the treatment to prevent or at least slow down breakouts. you have to avoid the sun though.
has anyone talked to their doctor about fraxel's effect on the sebaceous glands? obviously its having an effect on them since everyone is breaking out right after treatment.
i read in a fraxel pdf file where a doctor was saying fraxel can damage or destroy oil glands . . .

I certainly hope not, I just heard it's temporary.

11? What kind of scars do you have? Have you seen any improvement?
Anyone translate Japanese?
This is some good histology slides showing fraxel treatment. Looks like the first few days after treatment is when the epidermis regenerates. Then the dermis takes several months.
Ive had 2 tratments $700 each time i never saw any improvement at all since then ive had 3 skin needling treatments and would say this has helped me way way more than fraxel and only costs me $150 every time, needling is the best for ance scars alot of people just jump straight to lasering without giving needling any thought trust me its the best dont waste your $$$

This is starting to get frustrating. I don't know how many times it needs to be repeated on this thread. Fraxel results do not begin to appear until after the 3rd or 4th treatment. Improvement continues up to 6 months after your last treatment. For me, the bulk of my improvement came 3-4 months after my 6th fraxel.
fraxel is FRACTIONAL people!
it's easy to get misled when you have a roller going over your whole face. then the next day your entire face is red and swollen. but in fact only a fraction of the skin actually received any laser!!!
go to youtube and watch some of the videos of the fraxel re:pair. you can see the sparse white dots that get laid down with each pass. then you realize how very little of the scar actually gets treated each time.
then you will begin to realize why your skin isn't magically transforming after 2-3 treatments!!! takes several more tx and months of regeneration for that to happen
Zonk - what % improvement do you estimate? Variation by scar type?
I'd 50-75% improvement. My rolling scars have improved a lot, not 100%, but you would only notice i had rolling scars if you knew where they were and were looking for them. Excision scars improved ~50%. Enlarged pores, 10-20%. Ice picks/failed excision didn't change noticeably.

TEVEZ - What type of acne scars did you have that improved with needling? How long ago did you get needled? Glad you're happy with your results & money saved over fraxel 😀 Thanks.
I was hoping 5 fraxel session would take care of my rolling scars, what do you think? And secondly I'm afraid fraxel will "resurrect" my acne. thanks.
well i think rolling scars are the best for the fraxel.....they react well to it.....so maybe 5 is all u will need.....as far as resurrecting acne, i don't know....im scared of that too.....i always get a post fraxel breakout but im on an antibiotic to curb it. and ive been fraxeled every 2-3 weeks since like last september.....so i dont know what will happen after i stop lasering.......i guess i'll find out.....ill be stopping my treatments when the weather gets warm.....im hoping to get in 15, and then stop for 3 months and see what happens.....
ill keep everyone posted
Hi Guys!
I just wanted to check with you if this sounds right. I had my first fraxel at 40 mj level 7 last Thursday (4 days ago). I still haven't peeled and the redness only lasted 3 days. There seemed to be only very minimal swelling.
Should I expect my skin to peel after the first session at all even?
thanks!
