2 days post-fraxel now, and I'm breaking out a little bit. Small pink pimples about 2-3 mm in diameter with a tiny pustule in the middle. Again, nothing major. I'm also beginning to peel.I should mention that I was not on hydroquinone this time, because it makes me breakout. We'll see if I have any PIH. I doubt it.
zonk is the doc prescribing an antibiotic??
nope to orals, i'm not breaking out enough to care. it is very mild. also, i've been on doxy and mino and both gave me cysts that stopped appearing immediately after i discontinued the course.
i do have finacea, duac, and biafine available to me, but i'm giving it a couple days for the finacea and duac so i don't irritate my skin too much.

So I guess the acne you get from fraxel isn't bad enough to cause new scars?

Hey all,I had my second treatment today. It was a lot more painful this time. We went down to 35 mj but up in density to 8, so greater total energy. The zimmer also stopped working in the middle of my treatment, so that didn't help.
Anyways, I chatted with my derm about a couple things. The upgrade to the SR1500 changes the settings. It requires less passes for the same coverage (I had 6 instead of 8 this time) and the treatment levels are different (e.g., today's TL 8 was pre-upgrade TL 7).
Also talked to her about the re:pair system. She said that she believes it will be less effective for scarring compared to the SR1500, since it does not goes as deep. This is because the re:pair is fully ablative, so it will do too much damage if it goes too deep.
Hey Zonk, did they still use the blue dye on you or not? If no dye, did you like not hasseling with it alot better?

i had the blue dye, my derm's getting the new tip next month. incidentally, the blue dye has never bothered me. they put a little bit of it on right before they treat and most of it comes off right after.
what lotion do you put on your face after fraxel??? vitamin E?
i use biafine: http://www.biafine.orthoneutrogena.com/
just an update its been couple weeks past my 3rd fraxel, and im seeing real results. I can see a softening of the scars and improvement in skin texture & tone and i have been told by others that my face looks better or refreshed a few times by people who have no idea im doing this.
im not jumping to any conclusions or have any expectations.. just reporting what i see.. 3 more treatments to go..
after reading every single post on this board (it took me the whole weekened) ... i just booked my first fraxel II with dr. rokhsar in new york city. my first treatment is friday at 11am. this message board really said it all so nothing he said was a suprise. i am not getting full face- only one cheek. i will keep you all posted on every step of the way. fyi: i was told newer scars respond quicker than older ones. anyone have any exact info to share on if the 1st treatment makes any difference?

All my scars are <1 year old, if not <6 months old, and I saw improvement after the first one. I would estimate <10% improvement on all but one. I had one linear rolling scar improve about 50%, but it was rather shallow.

zonk - you are so active on the baord it really gives me hope. you are awesome! so is the improvement immediately - like right after you leave the office? a week later? what was your skin care routine like afterwards? any special moisturizer? i have one large chicken pock scar and two deep scars right by the chicken pock scar that are about two months old.

well, immediately after, you will be pretty swollen, so it will look like your scars are all gone. But that's not true improvement. Your skin will return to normal in about 2 weeks (you will think it has returned to normal in 3-4 days, but there will still be microswelling that subsides over the 2 weeks). at that point, you can start thinking about evaluating how things went.
please do not expect improvement after the first treatment, though. i have superficial scarring and will probably only need a total of 3 treatments to get what most people will get in 5-6 treatements (if not more). i strongly believe that it is the combination of my very shallow and relatively fresh scarring that allowed me to see improvement after the first treatment.
of all the posters on here, there was maybe me and one other person who saw an improvement after the first time, so don't get discouraged if you don't see improvement. it is imperative that you do at least 3 before you begin thinking about how well fraxel is working, otherwise you will be wasting your money.
true that. some people got discouraged then came back and said they really saw the improvement only six months after their last treatment.
its kind of like accutane. some people see results right away at low doses. some don't get clear until they've stopped after a massive course!
i am curious to know what anyone thinks about the freshness of scars. do you think it works better on old ones or newer ones?
I have heard scars are considered old anywhere b/w 6 months to 1 year. I honestly don't think freshness will make a huge difference as people with old scarring have responded well. Depth/severity matter much more.
I am just about 2 weeks post my first fraxel and I think I have actaully seen improvement. After the first day it looked great, it was nice to walk around with no scars but about 4 days later when the swelling was down my scars were back. The wierd thing is now 2 weeks later they look better then they did 5 days after the treatment. My doctor did say I had the kind of scars that would respond well to Fraxel. I go back next week for my 2nd round. Good luck to everyone!!

did you do full face fraxel? what was your after-care like? it did not irratate current scars?
I got sebaceous hyperplasia from Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL is not a laser per say, since it is broad spectrum light. But it was so bad I had to go on Accutane to get rid of it.Nanty's experience has me really worried. How many people are getting hyperplasia/clogged pores from fraxel?? Seems like everyone . . .
Just FYI for you and everyone else, none of the spots she treated came off.
Hi All,Thank you for all of your replies and suggestions. Saw the PA today and found out I have a bad case of sebaceaous hyperplasia (sp?). At least a hundred or more of these things. She said they were not caused from fraxel but possibly during the healing process something contributed to clogging the pores while they were healing or ??. She did not really know what happened, but she froze some of them off to show/assure me that they are not permanent. She thinks I should get my last fraxel and then she will freeze all of them off. I am afraid I will get a billion of them with my last fraxel. I am just glad that she can get rid of them. I was afraid they were permanent!! Thank you all again. Also, let me know if I can answer any questions.
Ann
Glad to hear you found out what the problem is! I don't see how she can say it was not caused by the Fraxel though. Especially showing you she could remove them but not wanting to do it until after you last Fraxel. That right there shows you that she's afraid if she removes them now you will just get more after each FRaxel treatment therefore the Fraxel IS causing them. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I might have worded that the wrong way. I was hesitant to do the last fraxel at all. She wants me to do it. She froze them off to assure me she could get rid of them to encourage me to do the last fraxel. BUT THEY ARE NOT GONE! Not even one of them is gone. Now I have to call her today to find out what to do next.
My doctor offers partial-face fraxel for about half the cost of full face. I don't really need full-face. Just areas on my cheeks. Have any of you had partial-face fraxel?
I think full face is better because you might get a slight demarcation line. Also, fraxel helps the overall appearance of the skin. Mine looked great before I got these bumps.
