I had my 2nd Fraxel today. They sure turned up the power. Last time they said i was at a 18 and did 6 passes. And this time i had 12 passes at a 25. I am MUCH more swallowan this time around and very red. I also bled in a few spots just at the top of my cheek bone and around my nose a little bit. I had the choice to take some valium and demerol this time around but i refused and just took the usual dose of the 2 tylenol threes and the hour numbing cream. It was much faster this time also. She said she was going to go much deeper and trust me i think she did. Now i apply my pro-derma regenerating cream and the aloe they gave me about 5 times in a day. I really hope this swalloness goes down soon. I took less time off work this time because last time i didnt get swallowan at all. SO does anybody have any suggestions to bring my swelling down even quicker! I heard im not suppose to be icing for some reason...

You might try taking an antihistamine such as benadryl. Continue taking the ibuprofen also since that reduces inflamation until the swelling has subsided. Between those and the ice packs the post fraxel moon face should subside in 3-4 days. As far as the redness goes... thats another story.

you actually want swelling as long as its not really bad like blistering. part of healing process.

Thanks to those who responded. I am now 1 week after my 1st fraxel and am finally starting to look back to normal. Still red and flakey in some places. How long does microswelling last? My scars look great right now and so do my pores, but I assume it's swelling. I know, I shouldn't get my hopes up so early.

Also, I was prescribed Biafine and use it a lot. Do you think using it too much could hinder healing? It just feels so darn good. 😉

My next treatment is 2 weeks from Friday. The one week down time is a pain, but worth it if I get some results. I am taking a bunch of photos and can clearly see a difference, but who knows. Thanks for any advice.

a few others who posted many many pages ago used biafine and had only good things to say about it. its actually invented for burn victims but is such a great moisturizer and skin healing aid some smart derms use it with fraxel.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info on the new laser tip for the 1500. If I did not read this board I would not have a clue! I only have one treatment left and will consider waiting for my doc to get this new tip. TROUBLED-what do you think about the safety and effectiveness of the new settings up to 70?

Hi Nanty!

Good to see you back on the forum. Regarding the new tip. I would not be to concerned with safety issues however I think it is always wisest to approach any new treatment with caution until it is in wide spread use. A good approach would be to spot treat trouble prone areas at that setting and do wide coverage at more clinically established settings. How have your results been thus far?

Yes, you do want swelling in the sense that it is indicative of thermal damage and concomitant healing. However, once the swelling has been initiated, taking steps to minimize it will not interfere with the healing process.

The swelling is a side effect of the healing and not the healing itself.

Hi fellow Fraxelers,

I had my 2nd treatment done on Monday. It was done at 125, 4.17KJs, and 20 mjs. I have quite a bit of pin point bleeding on my forehead and temples. The swelling isn't as bad as last time, probably because I iced my face every 2 hours for the past two days. He said he was more aggressive this treatment, so I'm happy about that. I thought I was going to go through the ceiling when he did my upper lip, though! I'll keep in touch if anything else happens in the next few weeks.

Hey Troubled,

I still keep up with the forum, just don't post much because it seems like there is a lot of emotional stuff going on this board. As always, thanks for your input and advice.

I have definately seen results, an overall softening of my scars, but not what I hoped for. I can see that if I had an unlimited amount of funds to do many treatments it would eventually be successful. I have been told that for full results I have to wait 3-6 months after the last treatment so to fully judge would be premature at this point. I only have one treatment to go and I don't have any more money right now. I am not sure about the accuracy of the 3-6 month thing, what do you think?

The nurse at the first office recommends getting a microdermabrasion right before the Fraxel treatment, which sounds a little much. Is microdermabrasion before Fraxel a good idea?

Interestingly, I just got back from a consultation with Dr. David Duffy for my fraxel. He and the registered nurse there both recommended I get a SilkPeel before the fraxel to prep my skin. The SilkPeel is very similar to microdermabrasion only its supposed to be more gentle. I was a little puzzled about that myself. Anyway, so I am having my SilkPeel 1 week before my fraxel to help with the hyperpigmentation.

They were both very concerned with the level of hyperpigmentation I had from the 1 fraxel. The nurse even suggested that I wait until all the hyperpigmentation had gone down before getting the next fraxel.. however she would be willing to treat me anyway as long as I understood and acknowleged the risk.

I think I'll do 1 more fraxel and re-evaluate.

I am about 15 hours post 3rd Fraxel treatment for isolated pitted & ice-pick scars. (Energy = 20, Density = 125, Passes = 8). The doc used the same settings as the previous treatments.

Right now, the treated areas are as red as ever, and I have multiple pinpoint hemorrhages. This is the first time I got the hemorrhaging. I hope it goes away by Sunday evening.

As in previous treatments, my scars are now completely flat and near invisible!!! But I know that will only last 2 weeks.

Prior to my treatment, the doctor mentioned that there is definite improvement in the scars. He said that the depth has not yet changed, but the edges are much smoother than before. That made me happy.

Unfortunately, I will look like a freak for the next 5-6 days.

Hello everyone! I had my first Fraxel 2 days ago. From reading all of the post on here I knew I would have some swelling and redness but I didn't think it would be this bad! My face is still so swollen that I don't look like myself in the mirror (I've been icing on and off since the treatment) and as far as the redness goes, it's more like light purple which is now turning into brown patchy spots! What's going on here? Is this normal? I'm starting to freak out and question whether or not to continue with the other 3 I have scheduled. I know it's only been like 48 hours but I was getting a little worried....

Also, I'm 37 years old, in Orlando, Fl. and doing Fraxel for moderate rolling acne scars. The nurse said she went kind of aggressive 22/125, whatever that means....

Sounds normal to me. You should read the rest of this thread if you don't know what 22/125 means -- energy/depth and density.

She started you pretty high, which is great. My first round of Fraxel I didn't get up to 22 until the 4th treatment. Looking back, I wish he would have started there. I saw much more improvement at that level. Don't worry about what's going on with your face. Everything sounds fine!!

sounds like you have some bruising/purpura, normal for it to turn brown yellow like any bruise as it fades. could be blue dye+redness looks purple. keep us posted on progress.

too bad everyone is spread out. if just 10-15 people pooled the cash they were going to spend on one treatment series we could buy the machine. then our only costs would be buying the replacement tips.

i've seen used fraxel I and II machines on ebay and some medical wholesalers sites. they usually want 50k. supposedly they verify u are an "authorized buyer" whatever that means.

seriously i went to nursing school and there's nothing they are teaching in school about fraxel. it's all hands on learning from brochures, webinars, seminars, etc.

Interesting.. I bet in LA alone we could get enough people to pay for the machine. Just need some place to keep it and someone to work it.

Thanks to everyone for reassuring me that my post Fraxel symptoms were normal. I actually look much better today. Most of the major swelling is gone, I know I still have some minor swelling because I can't see my scars anymore, which is awesome, even it it is only temporary! The red/purple/brown colors have all faded to a light pink. It's amazing how much difference a day can make. I think I can actually venture out of the house today, YAY! I will definitely keep everyone posted on my progress. My PS promised a 50-70% improvement, which I know is way overstated. Most people on here have said they've only seen a 10-30% improvement and that's ok. I'll take anything I can get at this stage of the game. Stay tuned......

I had my 2nd fraxel 2 procedure done a couple days ago. The pain was sooooooooo excrutiating.... ironically they gave me local anesthesia but it seemed that the numbing cream worked better the first time. Plus i feel slight bruising where they administered the shots (mouth and forehead). My settings were close to maximum though, 40mjs, level 9, 29%. I think I am going in for one more procedure in a month. They said next time they will use both numbing cream and local anesthesia.

That is actually true! Most patients do notice a delayed response post Fraxel. To what extent varies widely as individual body chemistry/healing response is different between each patient.

Hi everyone. Haven't been on much. Its been over 2 weeks since my last fraxel treatment. I have to say that I really dont see much improvement. I was wondering if anyone who's farther in this treatment than me know if we will see changes to our skin after 6 months? I am real bummed out. I am not sure to go for another series of treatment or try something else.

ps: My skin has been lookin rough (texture is awful) + I have excision scars.

Jp007, Simpy Me, and others, how are you're progress so far?
