im 22, i had acne since i was 15..im a compulsive picker..when i first got acne i ripped da scabs off and i got these horizontal indented scars which were about 0.7 cm long (ice pick)..well i had alot, about 7 and they were right under my eyes..believe it or not they filled in completely in just 9-10 months..But once i picked da 2nd time they never healed..The scars i have now are about 0.3 cm and its been 6-7 years and they haven't gone..My question is if it filled in the first time, why won't it fill in the second time i picked them..can somebody plz explain this to me..
I also have some old ice pick scars on my face. I'm thinking punch excision. Has anyone done this procedure in Los Angeles area? I had a consultation with Dr. Sam Alaiti. Does anyone know about him? Thanks.

out of curosity, how big are your ice pick scars? if they are small you could simply tca cross them. its a lot cheaper and there are fewer chances of complications. if they are big, hope the punch excision works for ya.

PUNCH EXCISION OR SKIN GRAFTING COULD BE DONE ON THE NOSE ????
what a fantastic read, wish I could have seen pics though. Now I wonder, why the hell arent there more of us trying punch excision for atleast our really really bad scars. We all have them half dozen scars that stand out more then the others, or well atleast I do.

BTW I hope the success stories werent surgeons promoting their work because I have NEVER read about improvements like these. NEVER!

I have been reading these boards on and off for a long while now. I am in my 30as and have some large ice pick scars on both of my cheeks - they have caused me a great amount of stress for many years.
When I found this board it was great to be able to read about other people who felt the same way and even though sadly not everyoneas story has a positive ending it was great to get a perspective on what I could expect should I decide to go ahead and have some surgerya
I am in Sydney, Australia, and was referred to a dermatologist in Kogarah (Dr H. Studniberg) for a consultation in October last year. He advised me that due to the type of scaring I had the only real option for me was punch excision, excision or punch elevation. I had read all of the posts on here before going to see him so thank you a I knew exactly what to ask and what to hope for.
So far I have had two lots of surgery, one in October and one in December last, in total I have had 7 scars removed. Two were smaller and they were removed with punch excision, the others were larger and were removed by excision. The surgery was not cheap but in the end worth every cent.
I could not have asked for a better result (and it was certainly better than I expected). The recovery was harder than I expected, a week spent sleeping upright, not lifting anything or bending over and not able to eat much the first few days due to the tightness of the pressure bandage on my face. I asked my doctor before the surgery if there was anything I could take that would assist with the healing, he said no. I did attempt to quit smoking as I know that it would have been better for me while I was healing though I wasnat very successfula I did however (on the advice from my pharmacist) start taking an anti-oxidant tablet daily a few weeks before the surgery (and am still taking them), it is called Anthogenol and is supposed to be good for your skin and circulation. I also ate mainly fruit and vegetables for the first week and a bit post surgery. Though I donat know if this actually worked at the end of the day, I am mentioning it just in case it did helpa
I know that healing is dependant on the individual but I really had a great result and to possibly give hope to others that felt as desperate as I did before having the surgery I thought I should tell you all of my experience. The "holes" I used to have in my face have now been replaced with thin lines, the earlier ones you can barely see.
If anyone is interested I have some before and after photos and would be happy to post them.
Best of luck to anyone else who is thinking of having this done if you can find the right Dr/Surgeon I couldn't reccomend it enough...

About 1, 5 year ago I went to a derm and she told me there was nothing she could do about it (she told me excision wouldn't work) and that I just had to live with it (easier to say than to do). She told me she could only "smooth the edges" and unfortunately I had laser done which made it even WORSE (btw ablative laser is a BIG NO-NO for ice-picks). I actually blame myself for this because I didn't know anything about laser at that time and I should have searched the Internet BEFORE I did this ](*,)
Anyway, the surgeon I spoke to today was SO NICE and told me it would be very easy to excise it (I belive he will do what is called a punch elevation). He said it would leave a small, thin scar which is totally leveled with the rest of the skin. I will have a couple of stiches for a week and if I wanted an even nicer scar I could use strips after the stiches are removed. He said there was no need for an inside stitch. I also asked him if this was a common procedure and if he had done it many times before. He just laughed (in a nice way) and said this was the easiest operation you could do and that excision is the first thing you learn as a surgeon. The excision will cost about $250.
I walked out of there a little shocked but VERY happy. After what the derm told me I didn't have much hope and now I was told it was easy to fix!? The only bad thing is that I have to wait two months but hey, if I've waited this long two months really are nothing! I trust this surgeon because he also works at a well known, reputable hospital (and he didn't have the $$ in his eyes
) . HOWEVER, I will not truly believe anything before I actually see it.
I just wanted to share these positive news with you all. This board has helped me when I have been depressed and hopefully this will give you a little hope. If everything goes well I will post some before and after photos since I know it's very hard to find good ones on the Internet.

well punch is theoretically supposed to leave a thin line scar that is the same length as your original scar while scalp will always be longer because they have to cut the scar out in an oval like shape. Say you had a scar 1cm long, it would be like 1.5cm long after excision. Theoretically this longer scar would be completely in level with the rest of your skin and only be a thin line which would look better then an icepick or boxcar.
Ive found that all plastic surgeons just use a scalpal and the derms who still do excision use a punch tool.
I'm really starting to become irreterad, I have done 4 EMATRIX, IPL treatment without success. even think that it gets worse!
Now I will not make any more mistakes and do something that really works, I will do exicisoN with punch or skapell.
I expect nothing but that my pits are replaced by a long scar that is the same height as my upper skin.
I do not care about the scar will disappear as long as there is a straight line.
Do I have the right expectations? or does I not get the scar straight and raised?
Please, you ALL who have done this treatment tell how the final results will be? put up some pictures that could convince us, the pictures posted are a number of years old. DONT BE SELFISH please.
if it has not gone well with the treatments tell the rest of us too so we need not make the same mistake!

I had two punch excision done on two scars and the derm did what your doctor suggested--stitches and then mending afterwards. The two scars are completely gone with no trace they were even there!!!! Going next week to have more done but with a different derm. I had Fraxel Repair a year ago and that is a waste of money for ice pick scars. Which I would have done my homework on that $3,000 later. Ouch.

I had excision done on a pock mark near my eye. Two weeks later I have no redness and a thin line. For me the line is very noticBle and has a large hole in the middle. My ps surgeoan says the hole will heal but how long does it take for this line to fade!? I'm worried because the line is noticable. I'm 5 days out after having stitches removed. How long will ths fade out?

I had the Punch Excision today! along with my 3rd N-Lite (at setting 3)
I had 12 scars excised!!! - 5 on each cheek and 2 on the forehead. There are around another 12/15 that will be excised in 4 weeks (if all goes well with the current excisions). They couldn't all be done at the same time because they are too close together.
Dr Chu felt that the larger icepicks/boxscars had not responded that well to subcision and N-lite and that excision and more N-lite will produce the best results for me.. so I told him to "go for it!" and now my face has 12 black stitches all over!
I was locally numbed with injections (around 12 injections).
He used a 3mm punch too for these (going around 2mm deep), he said double layer stitches were unnecessary, and did one layer stitch, with just one stitch for each scar.
I only got plasters because I asked for them, but he said it was unnecessary to cover them up. So, now that I am home, the plasters are off.
After the punch excisions (by the way, Dr Chu and another derm worked on me at the same time - one on each side of the face) - it took more than 30 minutes for the blood to stop spurting - we all got involved holding large swabs, pressing them down against my face whilst I was lying down.
I bled a lot (I kind of expected it when I was covered with a large plastic sheet :-k ) But once it stopped it bleeding, that was it -no more blood.
Sorry for the gory details, actually, I am very pleased to have had so much done in a day - if this works out - there will be a duplication of the above in 4 weeks and I will only have to worry about a few red marks (which will be easy to get rid of with time and topicals) and some shallow scarring which I can so easlily live with (and get rid of with my normal topicals and microdermabrasion)
I have an appointment with the nurse at my GPs office in 6 days to get the stitches removed.
Tonight, I will wash my face and start applying my ALA/DMAE emu oil cream.
And yes... I have taken plenty of photos. When it's all over, I will post my photo journal... from needling to.... subcision and N-lite.... to excision!

By the way, Dr Chu is fantastic - he has excellent people skills, made me feel very comfortable and his team of derms and nurses are great too.
Hi, Maya.. did you ever experience a hole in the incision.? looks like a suture mark but im concerned this is permanent
