Hi there! I was curious to see if anyone else is having the same problem as me (Im sure theres someone out there). I had terrible acne when I was a teenager and has since left me with scarring on both cheeks along with some sun damage/Melasma.

I work outside so I am exposed to all kinds of weather elements. I have noticed that my scarring areas in the winter time get a lot worse. When its cold out, the skin where my scars are get really red when I get windburn. I try to cover up as much as possible but not always feasible. Symptoms include face getting really hot and feel tight (only wear my scars are), redness,so on and so forth. It usually goes away after about an hour but is still pretty unbearable on the social aspect of it. I am using Redness reducing cream, hydroquinone pads, metro gel, and lipid moisturizer for my skin care routine.

Does anyone have any remedies for this exact problem? Ive been looking into Subcision, chemical peels, Retin A etc. Thanks for reading!

Hmm. Your scars get red? The same scars you've had for years? I haven't heard of this before.

If it only lasts an hour, I don't see why hydroquinone or retinoids would help. If it's a short term thing, that would mean blood is coming into the area and not melanin.

So...probably just smoothing out your skin would help the most...I mean lessening the actual scars. So in that case, things like subcision, laser, etc. might help get to the root of the issue.

I actually get redder scars at times with hot weather or irritation or flares from my own situation. But I can see how stimuli in general can do this.

Dan made a really good point that it's likely blood is flowing through the area basically like blood vessels are reacting and hitting the scars in such a way. It may also explain why people feel scars look better in the morning before activity or blood flows or stresses/stimuli, myself included.

I share the same issue. I think improving the scars, and this is just a guess but maybe something like vascular laser or something that can suppress or limit the vessels that are too close might also help but that's just a guess I could be wrong. I plan on exploring vascular or other lasers because I have issues with damaged blood vessels.

Sounds like your experiencing flushing . I also had the same problem and what helped get rid of the flushing was V beam . Its also used for rosacea . The v beam makes it so it eliminates the flushing and then you wont have to worry about impact from weather extc.
