Hi all-
I had Subcision with filler and Genius RF done 7 days ago now.
I was very swollen for 3-4 days and in that time my face looked so smoothwith no scars or indents AT ALL. I was shocked.
but now its day 7 and it looks like all the scars and dents are back.
I have another session at the 6 week mark, but wondering if this is normal even with having filler?
thanks for any insight.
also I went to a well known acne scar specialist in Florida.

The days right after swelling are so promising! Buttttttttt, it's back to reality after that. For some procedures, it takes months for collagen to develop; for others, you may still see an improvement after the swelling is gone. I'm surprised that with filler, you don't notice any improvement. Maybe you have certain scar types that don't respond to filler.
You saw Dr. Weiner, right? You should bring this up to him and maybe evaluate the plan so that you're not spending all this money for nothing.
Did you have pictures taken before the procedure?
Yes- Dr. Wiener! Him & Sandy are so nice.
I do have pictures from before and everyday since the procedure I can post. They also took a lot of photos while I was there.
Ill mention it to him when I go again.
The swelling fooled me!!! I was thinking is this what its like to have smooth cheeks?!? It was great, but short lived.
Didnt realize it goes back after, but now I feel better that thats how it goes.
Thanks for your input!! I appreciate it!

This is why you should not get filler immediately after subcision. With so much swelling, it's nearly impossible to inject filler correctly. Unless each scar pit wasprecisely marked beforehand, there will be unavoidable mistakes.
BTW getting another treatment in 6 weeks is not very ideal. Collagen takes about 3 months to form and any premature treatment will only disruptthat process.
Subcision and filler should make immediately improvement that lasts until filler dissolves, of course your scars always come back when swelling is gone after few days, but improvement must be there with filler injected, thats my experience, otherwise why put filler into the face ?
Also i ve seen best results from Genius RF somewhere between 3-5 months after treatment, after 3 months i saw skin is starting to improve,5 months it was done, again thats my experience, i dont understand why should i do another treatment sooner .
I underwent twice Genius RF spaced 6 months, now i am almost 4 months after Genius RF, i wouldnt do 3rd tretamentnow, i can clearly see colagen is rebuilding and skin is lifting, why to destroy the progress ?

This is off-topic, but if you've already had exposure to both filler and RF, then I suggest you combine Sculptra with RF in the future. Studies have indicated that the combination treatment yields a better result.

Yeah thats my thought exactly regarding having filler.Ill talk to my doctor about it all when I go again. From what I understand now is it only looked smooth from swelling and its normal for scars to be back and wait for collagen to build.
It was only concerning to me because I thought the filler would help with the indents after swelling went down. But also maybe Im concerned for no reason. I appreciate everyones responses!

He did the filler before Subcision and then Genius after. They recommended every 6 weeks. But that makes sense about collagen formation and waiting.

Was this all done on the same day? For me, this would have raised a red flag.
As I wrote above, injecting filler after subcision is a bad idea IMO. However, injecting filler before subcision is absolutely the worse idea (for 3 reasons). First, you need to feel the scar as you subcise. That would be hard to do with filler already under the skin. Second, injecting filler will cause swelling. Swelling will also make it difficult for precise subcision. Finally, it's possible to move the filler out of place when you subcise afterward. Maybe this is what happened in your case. Hence, the reason why you see no result.
My advice is to get subcision. Then wait 2 weeks or until the swelling is completely gone before getting a filler job.

This depends on what kind of fillers that was injected before subcision.
Sculptra - yeah no point.
HA fillers at top most layer, I do see a use case here. Since swelling from sub will cover most of the scars, this can be done first if patient can't come in another day. Subcision is done layers below where these are injected. So it make sense to do it before.
I'm surprised Dr. Weiner didn't recommend TCA Cross first. He's a doctor and we aren't, but I think many of us would suggest TCA Cross for the crater-type scars. I've heard doctors recommend 3-6 treatments of Cross so you'll need to be patient with this process.
Lasers are a method I could see helping you but it's better to have the scars less deep, hence why TCA Cross would be recommended. I put a link below if you're unfamiliar with TCA Cross. There's a ton of posts by it so just do a search on this forum. Also, ignore "scar removal" from this doctor. Scars can't be removed.

As a volumizer, HA fillers are injected into the mid to deep dermal layer. But, as a spacer, it's normally injected superficially.

It's an odd order of doing the treatments. Usually u get subcision first to cut any tethers down, then the filler acting as a spacer to prevent the re-tethering or if you get more ml as a volluminizer as well to fill the scars.Dr Weiner might have injected only a small amount of the filler as a spacer. That's why your scar come back. Did he use HA fillers?

You do your treatments with Dr Henningsen right? Does he do them subcision, HA filler, genius? In this order? Is is safe to do genius after the filler because of fear of destroying it? I've always wondered about this.
I did 4 treatments so far , first 2 were : subcision and then HA filler , 3rd and 4th subc and then Genius RF, so far so Good , i was worried little bit after 1st genius treatment , cause healing is really weird , up to 3 months it looks worse then it starts to look really Good

Ah ok. I understand. So no filler before the genius then. I was wondering exactly this. If you get subc and HA filler as spacer and immediately after rfm, won't the energy melt the filler? Or is there another reason why Dr Henningsen won't do them together?
Yeah I follow your journey cause I'm interested in the same dr and precedures )
I've had only subs+filler so far but want to try Genius next.

I red here that some people did sub + filler and then Genius RF with Dr Emil, i remember my second subc and he said he has new machine Genius RF, i said i dont wanna do it now but next time cause of filler just injected , he replied that studies show it shouldnt affect filler but that he had patient used Genius RF and filler dissolved , i dont know if i remener it correctly but i think he said that, so i dont know ask him next time.
I didnt want filler myself combined with Genius RF

My derm also did the same thingto me. According to him, he uses HA filler to pump up the scars, not to use it in the middle-deep layer of skins. Therefore, subcision after it won't move the filler.
