hi!
I have awful pitted/indented acne scars on both of my cheeks and temples.I am really confused as to whether I have mainly rolling scars, boxcar scars or ice pick scars. I have just started looking into treatments but after researching mirconeedling, it doesn't seem to be very effective. Can someone tell me what types of scars I have as well as how severe they look (goodman and baron scale) as i'm unsure. I would hugely appreciate if someone can what treatments would be best for me (ideally not laser due to risks and asian skin) and the best people/place that provides these in the UK. I am now looking into making an appointment with Dr Chu however I have heard that after subcision, fillers are needed so the scars do not retether and Dr Chu does not do this, i think. Are my scars tethered scars and are they deep enough to need fillers or will suction work. I am unsure how I would go about getting fillers after subcision or how many times i would need to do it. Does anyone know what treatments exactly Dr Chu will do. Also if you know how much these treatments would cost and how many i would need, it would be really helpful. First 4 pics are right cheek, next 4 are left. Thanks!
@avvy1Hi thanks for posting the pictures
Goodman and Baron scale means very little with acne scars unless your billing insurance or taking records. You want your scars fixed and that is all that matters. You have moderate scarring not severe I see daily.
Microneedling is effective you do it at home between Dr's treatments. Are we trying to be cheap and do things at home with only microneedling and peels for a few years with a subcision or two per year or are we trying to do Dr's treatments for maximum % of improvement.
I don't know what location you are in but see a Dr who is familiar treating your skin type. I have heard Dr. Chu is not. Dr Emil is a bit better in Denmark or DR H in the UK, ... look at the Dr's in the FAQ pinned to the top of the scar treatments main sub, the bottom is Dr's.
Dr Chu is cheap but just does a manual package with no follow up on patients. If you want full service, filler, which is important, and laser Emil is better or H. You can start with Chu if you must but you will end up going to other Dr's as well.
Rolling Scars, boxcars, and icepicks.

thank you so much for such a detailed reply! I live in the UK, in the east midlands and as I am only 18, I can not travel abroad for treatments and that is why I was considering Dr Chu. I was thinking of seeing him first and then either doing the suctioning method or finding someone else who can provide fillers. Again as I'm only 18, I can't spend lots of money however I am willing to spend up to about 1500 currently although I'm not sure how far that will get me. I am mostly just looking for what will give the most noticeable results and do not mind if there is still a small amount of scarring left. I have a lot of questions about fillers as I don't know when I would do those, would it be about a week after each subcision with Dr Chu? Would I have to go to a specialised doctor for these in London or is it safe to have them done locally? Which fillers would you recommend? Also why would you suggest a cannula rather than nokor forme? Also, I don't mind doing peels or mirconeedling at home however I don't think these will really help me as I have deep scarring rather than superficial? Also by H do you mean Dr H Consult? Last question, would you say I have some fat loss where some of my scars are? I can't really tell as I have quite hollow cheeks naturally.
Sorry,I just have so many questions but I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.
He does not do fillers, ... something soft like Beletero or a Juvederm softer filler.
Suctioning is fine, be aware Chu does not believe in it so don't tell him if you see him.
He also does not believe in after care follow my nightly insurrections above.
Have 100+ people to help today, will take me 24 hrs to respond.
Your 18 you will heal naturally without anything, yes go see Chu this is the best option, conservative treatment and no laser. Yes DR H, your right.
No you don't very mild scarring. It will just take time to treat
@acne_skin_queen
thanks, I didn't know that! that would definitely save a lot of time and money as I only live about an hours drive from Birmingham. Will definitely consider going to him. However, do you know whether I will have to book a consultation with him first if already know I want fillers because consultations tend to be quite expensive and I would rather skip if possible. Any idea how much fillers cost or how long after the subcision with Dr Chu I should get them done? Thanks for your help
Thanks, I will go book a consultation with Dr Chu then and go to Dr Anil for fillers or just do suctioning the first time round.
Is there any reason you're suggesting HA fillers ?
@avvy1Sculptra would be fine as well, ... if you find someone who will do it. This is more specialized than a HA filler.
Nope, I have no idea how you heal, ... Chu's treatments alone will not get you to higher %, that is progressive, Chu / Anil are a start, then devices are used after if you wish to soften texture.
I say 50% after all treatments (including rf needling, etc), if you get more great.
You need to heal between treatments, 3 months between. You are 18 and will get more natural healing than someone older, as such I would keep treatments to a minimum, Chu/anil package and perhaps some rf needling. Over doing treatment at this age is not wise. You can always do harsh laser's latter if you so desire.
