I've recently had two of them pop out recently, one on my jaw line and one just beneath my jaw aroundmy neck region. The first one came to a head and I popped it but it still remained swollen so I went to the derm to get a coristone shot and the swelling completely went away in two days. It was active for about 5-6 days before I got aninjection for it. Now it's just a small little bump which i can barely feel or see unless I apply pressure where the breakout appeared. And Last week on Sunday I had the second onesurface, which is weird,I never get breakouts in thatregion of my face.I also got that one injected today. It's been activefor about a week and a half up until today which is when I wentto the derm to get it injected. It'sslowly reducing in size. So my question is how long does a cyst/nodule have to be on active on your face before it forms a indented scar? I have no scarring around my Jaw area and I really don't want to get any scarring there.
For cystic acne I recommend seeing a derm, most likely you need Accutane. This can really mess up your skin and be bacterial or hormonal, etc...
I would notgo injecting a bunch of cortisone. It can leave divots, and many here come and complain about the pits. It takes forever to heal and you need subcision and filler to fix. There is no time a cyst is active before a indented scar. By the very nature it's stretching your skin and bacteria stressing the tissues. I'd have a derm help figure it out, if yours cannot do this, get a second opinion.
The longer a cyst sticks around, the more severe and deeper the scar. That's why cortisone injections are helpful. You have to understand what is happening in a cyst. The bacteria and inflammation literally destroys the tissue, and that is why you are left with an indented scar. In my experience cortisone injection are extremely helpful in stopping cysts from getting any worst IF they are done correctly. They can prevent cysts from getting out of control and scarring. Here's where most people go wrong though. Many dermatologists don't have a clue how to do cortisone injections correctly. The concentration must never be more than 2.5 mg/ml, anything higher than that will leave an indent. Cortisone injections are a last ditch effort after the cyst has already formed. Cortisone injections are not a replacement for a long term treatment to get your severe acne under control. The one thing I regret most from my severe cystic acne days is not doing more JUDICIOUS cortisone injections to bring down the biggest cysts (which ended up scarring me) and not getting on Accutane sooner. If your doctor wants to inject 10mg/ml of cortisone, run out of the office. They don't know what they're doing. Most of the disasters on here are from clueless doctors injecting too high a concentration and too often.
If you are getting cysts you need Accutane. If a doctor is resistant, get another doctor. The doctors who try to talk you out of something usually are trying to hide the fact that they are not experts.

I don't get breakouts like that anymore. It's really rare when I get a cyst. I'm not going to undergo a treatment of accutane when I don't need it. The only option I have when I get a cyst is getting a coristone shot. I don't get big cysts also. I get small sized ones. Also the indentation usually fills back up. What a steroid does is distort the fat on your face. Which eventually will resolve on its own within time.

I don't have severe acne. In fact Its rare when I get a cyst but I do get them, most of the time they are on the small side so my only option to protect my skin from scarring is reducing the inflammation as quickly as possible with a coristone shot. What I want to know is how long does a cyst have to remain active on your face for it to form an indented scar. The two cysts I've had got a coristone injection within a week from when the breakouts appeared. You think my chances are high of getting a scar from them?

You are one hell of a lucky dude.
I got very severe cystic acne and infection on my left face and rosacea (Which lasted for 3 months). I didn't know what to do with it, my parents did not care and assured it wasn't anything serious. At the very last ditch of effort that they showed (after I begged them to do something), I was sent to some crappy dermatologist who just took a 10 mins look and prescribed some benozyl peroxide which I then applied which caused the skin to be very dry and peeling. (Which I think might have contributed to my scars). I found out much later this chemical is very toxic and I would not recommend it what so ever to anyone. I was 18 years old with barely any money to do anything. If I had money and was older, I would have seek treatments myself.
I now have severe scarring on my left cheek and moderate scarring on my right. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong basically.

Well I got my cyst injected within a week and 4 days of it being active it completely went down in inflammation in like 2 days, so by 2 weeks it was flat for the most part, with a really small sized bump that went down 2 days after my 2nd week of dealing with the cyst, by the 3rd week everything was flat and smooth like it was before the cyst only thing I was dealing with was hyper pigmentation. I do feel lucky I have no scarring in that regine of my face and I want to keep it that way, only thing I wish I would have done with my other cysts that left scars was to get coristone injections instead of letting my body fight them off on its own. Never again though. I'm going to get any cyst that pops up (which is rare at this age) injected within a week of the breakout.
I stopped using Benzoyl Peroxide, it can be quite irritating, at least in my case it was. My face is less oily now, but I think that's part of the fact that I use a Tea Tree Shampoo with no sulfates, It's helped my oily face problem dramatically. Also my skin just feels way better without having any BP on it.
This is what I wish more people knew about. The longer a cyst stays on your face, the more chance it has to damage your skin and leave a scar. The best thing to do when you get a cyst is to get it injected with a VERY DILUTED concentration of cortisone / kenalog. Do not sit around waiting for it to heal. The people who get complications with cortisone are those that go to doctors that don't know jack about the correct % of cortisone to inject. Plus, most of the time, the atrophy from cortisone does get better vs. a scar that will NEVER recover.
I wished I had done this when I had severe cystic acne. My parents were the same way, they didn't help or give a shit about my skin and I've suffered so much for it.

Exactly, the longer you have inflammation from the cyst the more of a chance you have of it scarring your skin, literally every article I've read about cysts to prevent scarring is getting them injected as soon as possible to reduce the inflammation thus helping the chances to prevent a scar. Also I agree with what you said, an indention from a coristone injection will heal once the fat relocates on your face vs an indention from a scar which will never fill back up like it once was because there is missing skin tissue. This is why I believe the best scar treatment is silicone injections, because you're filling the void with a permanent filler.
