Hi,

I have been looking at this forum for quite a while now. This is my first post and I really need advice or suggestions on how to improve my problem.

I am 25 year old male with brown skin. I had acne during my teen years but it was quite mild. I took over the counter medicines and it cleared up when I was 21-24. I had a pretty clear skin with a few pimples here and there but they never left any scars I was loving life. I recently moved to Australia and without realising the devastating effects of sunlight here, I used to go out without sunscreen for almost a year. Since December 2016 I started getting acne every day. The acne was still moderate but I started getting acne scars from the acne. I didn't bother going to to the derm thinking it will be fine. I think this was my biggest mistake. Now I have rolling scars and some brown marks. I went to the derm and he straight away put me on 10mg/day accutane. He said I'll need a low dose because I don't have a lot of acne. I took accutane for about a month and then just quit. My active acne has cleared and I don't get new scars but I hate these scars. I know that I have very mild scars which are not visible at night but I have started hating going out in sun. I am a very active and out going guy but since January 2017 I simply hate going out in the sun. This has messed my head. also, I just quit taking accutane because it has made my skin to sensitive and thin. I started getting severe back and muscle pain along with bad fatigue. My skin is so dry and after showering I always get red dry spots now my face.

Please help me and tell me how do I get these scars removed. I know that people tell me that I don't have anything on my face and people have so much worse than me but honestly, this as ruined my confidence. I had a very clear skin till last year and now this is happening to me. I was thinking of getting chemical peels but how do make my skin strong again first. I can't wait for 6 months. I just took low dosage for a month and am not going back to it. Too many side effects.

Ill sincerely appreciate any help!

Where to start with this one. when you take accutane only for a month, the acne can come back, it's not a strong enough concentration in the tissues. Thus it's not permanent. They have alternatives now like PDT photo dynamic therapy for acne treatment. You cannot treat for 6 months, regardless if it was 1 or 4 months. It has thinned out your skin, you say it yourself, the skin must regenerate. Thus you cannot treat for scars.

The "red /brown" spots you speak of are most likely PIE or the after effects of acne, they are not scars but wounds. This can be dealt with using IPL / Vbeam /Excel V. you cannot use peels until 6 months after stopping acne, and not with active acne for resurfacing, you can use some peels for acne, but this does not fit here.Always wear sun protection / hats / clothing.

It takes a long time to recover from Accutane and PIE/ PIH - Hyperpigemtation. Your Derm could give you a steriod while waiting, speak to them.
