Hi all!

I've been off accutane for 9 months. I had it in my head that you had to leave it 6 months before considering scar treatment, so left it longer just to be on the safe side.

Today I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon about my acne scarring. He has suggested 3 treatments using the official derma roller, followed by one chemical peel at the end. I'm happy with this treatment plan.

However, during the consultation the surgeon said "you've been off accutane for 12 months yes??" Without really thinking I just said yes and didn't realise until afterwards that he had actually said 12 months..

Now i'm in a bit of a pickle as to what to do. I haven't signed up for anything so i'm not tied into anything, but was aiming to have my first treatment beginning/mid april (I.e. 10 months post accutane) but now i'm not sure? When we were talking about accutane i'm sure he mentioned something about how he wouldn't be recommending chemical peels if I hadn't been off accutane for a year.. well if i follow his treatment plan, by the time I get to my peel I would have been off accutane for 12 months anyway! What do people think? Should I hold off the whole treatment plan, i.e. have my first derma roller treatment in June rather than April? To be honest, i'm quite reluctant to do this because i'm already experiencing some pimples coming back and I don't want to risk having so many spots by June that i'm not considered for scar treatment anymore. I've been waiting a long time for this.

I finished Accutane (second course) in August of last year. I went to consultations at couple places, one doctor said she would not start lasers until a year post, while another dermatologist said waiting 12 months was based on old research that is not longer valid and that I could start in as little as 3 months.

I eventually got my first subcision in February. I also started needling (derminator from OwnDoc) in January. So far no negative side effects. I'll eventually post my results somewhere on this forum after another subcision.

I did couple rollings while i was on accutane, nothing went wrong, and i did with 2,0mm needles

i dont recommend either cause everyone is different but i think dermaroller is fine because is not ablative, it doesnt damage the epidermis so its almost impossible to something went wrong.
i should avoid ablative procedures like strong peels and lasers while on accutane but this waiting time for 8-12 months in my opinion arent necessary i think that in 3-6 months are more than ok
