How do you know if your scars are shallow or deep? I'm so confused because I know I have lots of ice pick and boxcar scars but I'm not sure how to tell if they would be classed as deep or shallow. In different light they can look totally different! What do you think of acne scar depth- is there a trick?

I know how you feel-- it is confusing to figure out how bad scarring actually is... I was convinced when my acne healed that I had severe ice pick scars because I couldn't figure out how to blend them with make up. I felt like my skin looked even worse with make up on, actually. My dermatologist told me they could be easily treated with a couple chemical peels. I didn't believe that for a second, but she was right, never needed a laser treatment, etc. She told me that when you run your fingers across your face (not looking in a mirror), minor scarring is hard to identify to the touch (even though visually it may seem like a disaster to you). Severe scarring is more like a divot, and will be noticeable to the touch.
