Glycolic Peel Not Effective. Need To Go Higher?

I have been using a glycolic peel 40% for my PIH left over from my cystic acne for over a month now and haven't noticed any improvement in my PIH. I jumped straight in and used it once in the first two weeks then went to start doing it every week. Recently in the past 2 weeks I have been doing it about 2/3 times a week but still not even a slight improvement from what I can see.

Anyone had any experience with glycolic peels? I was thinking of picking up a higher percentage maybe from a different brand. Am i being too impatient? The first few times I used it I was given a stinging sensation but now I can feel very little. Any ideas?

when i was younger i had good success with 40-50% glycolic acid but you can try tca that is more of a heavier duty type of peel and should give you good results. i would really not recommend doing that one yourself though tca is a lot stronger than glycolic so you will frost a lot faster. what brand are you using? i used to use makeup artists choice and their stuff was always really good. i would definitely stop doing peels 2-3 times a week though because you dont want to damage your skin. your skin probably just needs a break from doing so many peels at this point.

ow right ok. I see. It's called active solutions the brand. I looked at makeup artist choice but the price put me off. I heard that your skin needs time to heal after a peel to get new skin but I though if you are technically taking a layer of skin off then if you keep doing it every day it's gonna take the next layer off and so on till the pih is gone? Like surely resting it is going to make a fresh layer grow back over anyway then it's just a big circle? How long did it take for you to see results? Thanks for the answer :)

Don't overdo the peels. It'll end with scarring. The healing process is not done after the layer is fully shed. The healing process continues for 30+ days for lighter peels. You'll get much smoother results letting it go through the skin cycle instead of weakening your skin so badly. Trust me, hyperpigmentation is a minor issue compared to scarring. Give your skin 30-60 day break before any more light peels. You went into overdrive, an extended break will allow full healing.

If you're really not seeing results from glycolic, wait 8-12 weeks and go for a 8-12% TCA peel. These can only be done once every 8-10 weeks for the first few, every 90+ days after that. I've done a few, I find it's about 8 days to fully shed off the damaged skin and I've always continued to see improvement over the weeks after the peel. I see results as far out as 8 weeks. I had severe hyperpigmentation prior, I have very minor now.

Okay right I will leave it at that then and give it a month or so. I just assumed because it didn't seem to have any effect there and then it just wasn't working :\ whats a TCA peel? isn't that going to be a lot weaker than the 40% one i am using now?

Reason why TCA didn't work for me is cause i still had active acne/clogged pores, so it just erupted them and broke my face out even more.. If I didn't have clogged pores it would of been good for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. You most probably have PIE like the above poster said. In my experience PIE takes longer to go away, but even when its not fully faded it doesn't look as bad as the brown spots/PIH. Best of luck on your treatment bro.
