I am new to this form, but have been trawling it during the past few months. I get really bad cystic acne outbreaks, which get infected and I end up in more pain than childbirth. Last outbreak my lip got all infected and swollen. After a course of strong antibiotics and topical creams, the cyst goes down slowly leaking (gross I know) and then I am left with red marks in the place.
My GP has been pretty crap, just says take antibiotics forever or go on hormone pill. Which I am doing, but have read good stuff about laser treatments. Seems like conflicting stuff though as some say laser doesn't work to stop outbreaks but others have said it does.
What would you do to help another outbreak like this one?
Thanks for the replies, the top pic (very red) is not active as been using dalacin topical lotion and on hormone pill for about 8 weeks now. The bottom picture with the swelling and infection all stemmed from a swollen nodule type spot that I have suffered from.
I wanted to try and get the active breakouts under control and then 1. address the redness and scarring 2. try and minimise any future breakouts like the bottom picture. They couldn't get it to go away after two courses of strong antibiotics, so ending up draining it at hospital and injecting chin with steroids.
Anyone else come across this sort of acne which gets so badly infected. The doctors I have seen have said they haven't come across it, and don't really know how to address it other than antibiotics and pill.
