Hello Everyone!

I would like to share my story with you.

I've had beautiful skin until I was around 20 years old. Suddenly I started to break out. The acne was not big, however, it did bother me. I went on Yasmin birth control pills and my skin was smooth again. After two years of use I started to have problems with my heart, therefore I quit birth control pills (there were the cause of my heart problems).

After a year being off the pill, I got some breakouts. I went to dermatologist and she prescribed me Retin A 0.025 % (Acretin in the country I currently live).

And here the problem begins. After 7 months of using Retin A I got HUGE breakout. I was very nervous, but I thought it will last only for few months and I will get back to normal. Well. I was wrong. This breakout left me with horrible scarring, which I NEVER got before. 5 months after I decided to solve my scarring problem with a dermatologist. I got three treatments of laser (Erbium Yag and some CO2 I believe). My doctor advised me to use Retin A after the laser treatment to rejuvenate my skin. Month after month I was getting more and more scarring, my pores were huge (orange peel) and my whole texture was just horrible. I was still following my doctor's advise, as he said, that the results will come after 6 months. Then I stopped using Retin A for a few months. No new scarring, however the texture was the same.

Recently I got new breakouts again and another dermatologist prescribed me Epiduo. I was using it very carefully, but after two weeks I realized, that new scars were formed, where the acne was! Then I started to to realize, that Retinoids did NOTHING good for me, just left me with scarring and horrible texture.

One doctor even told me to use Hydrocortisone cream on my face after laser! And another, that I should use full spoon of RetinA on my face! I am so happy I didn't follow them. Can I trust a dermatologist, honestly?

Now, I started to take supplements for my skin (Collagen, Hyaluronic acid, Vit C, Vit B3 and Vit E)

I started to use Hyaluronic acid + Vit C cream on my skin. No harsh cleansers, just oils and hydrating creams. I want to strengthen and thicken my skin.

Does anyone have any similar experience? Do you guys know, how can we treat our skin and if it gets ever better? Can I do dermarolling without damaging my skin more?

Thank you, any advice is appreciated!

And just to add: Laser did not do anything for me (I am scared, that I will see negative results after few years .

The only thing, which I used and made a little difference is Rosehip oil + Vit E Oil and Vit. C supplements. But that is like maybe 5 % improvement (over 2 months), but any improvement is just amazing for me.

I've read, that the orange peel texture and sometimes even scarring is caused by damage of stratum corneum. The skin is not able to maintain moisture and it is loosing water and the collagen gets damaged and skin old :( I believe, that happened by peeling the skin by RetinA - very similar, what happens to people after IPL, chemical peels or lasers... But how to repair it?

My skin is much worse in reality than on the picture, of course. When I put makeup the texture is more uneven and scars more visible. I used to be free, happy, social... Now I am an emotional wreck, I got depressed, trying not to leave the house - such a freak, right?

I will update you, how will the HA, Collagen creams and supplements work...

well you need to use a cleanser or you wont clear your acne/clogged pores with just water

get rid of the oils , all you need is one hydrating cream or moisturizer dont over do it and the ingredients of putting many products on can clog pores if you dont check it first

doesnt look like you have any products to fight the acne or help exfoliate thats why you only are getting 5% improvement over 2 months

damages from laser usually take 4-6 months to heal

maybe try dan's regimen

Hi Leading Force! Thank you very much for your reply! :)

I used to use benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid clay masks... many things over these two years. I used cleaners for fighting acne and blackheads. The situation got only worse. Stripped off skin and more sensitive. I believe, that everyone is different though. My acne is almost under control (maybe 3 breakouts in a month), the problem are the open pores, scars + texture :(

For me it really make sense, that when your upper skin is stripped or thinned by harsh peeling, you are prone to scarring and your pores are exposed and appear larger... Am I wrong?

You have so many things going on I think it's hard to tell exactly what caused your issues - some of it could have been from the laser, which is common, and some from the acne itself. I do think it's likely that retinoids made you more prone to scarring though. It's Vitamin A and people report scarring from Accutane which is also Vitamin A, so it makes sense that it weakens the skin. But much of it could have been the laser too. Just clearing your acne completely and being gentle is probably the way to go for awhile. Hang in there girl!

Thank you so much Michi! Sure, I think the same. Without acne, there wouldn't be the damage and without retinoids and laser it wouldn't be permanent and so severe :( I will pamper my skin for a while and I will keep you updated (however, it will take months... maybe years).

It is amazing, that this forum exists! I got so much information and now even support. I can't talk to none of my friends about this problem... Anyway, they will never understand, they have amazing skin and I don't blame them, that they don't know what to say... I can't even talk to my husband. I feel so sorry for him. He met me, when I was beautiful girl full of joy. I don't want to talk about this with him, it is embarrassing. Therefore I found this forum to be veeery helpful!

Thanks everyone! :)

I understand how you feel. I also feel bad for my husband as I'm not the same fun and carefree person I used to be. Feel free to PM me anytime if you want to chat.

Thank you for your support, Michi! This makes me feel much better, if I know, there are people, who understand and who know, what I feel! You are sweet person! <3

Also I want this to be a big reminder to all the people to research well before they undergo any treatment. And please, even dermatologists are sometimes wrong, don't trust them 100 %, make your own research.

Oh, that is an awesome information! I actually downloaded the application into my phone! I realized, that some of the ingredients in the cream, that I used were comedogenic

**Thank you, Leading Force!**

Oh, one more question. My skin looks so aged! Do you guys think, that a use of anti-aging creams for a few months might help the skin to rejuvenate? ...the thing is I am 26!
