I have been advised by a dermatologist and surgeon that I should have a dermapen treatment and use the obagi topical kit to reduce the appearance of my scars and hyper pigmentation. From the pictures do you think the dermapen will work? I'm hoping for some improvements.

I can't be sure but i believe you have ice pick and some small boxcars. Personally, I think you don't have bad scarring. It's shallow but it's all dispersed which is the worst part. I also think that you still have active acne. If so, you should first get it under control before any treatment.

Yes, dermapen will help them. You can later look into laser treatments because dermapen won't give you the best results. Consider it just a start to your acne scarring journey!

Hey man thanks, people tell me it's not that bad it is quite moderate which makes me unhappy and uncomfortable. I had a laser treatment last year, it was a small test patch. Unfortunately Laser treatment did not go well for me. As I am dark skin asian, I wasn't suitable for laser because of hyper pigmentation. It is shown on the image above. I'm now left with a darker patch :(

Oh, I totally forgot it! It's sucks man :(

You see, I only have mild scarring and so I'm not into aggressive treatments like laser and that stuff. The only thing I can sure off is that your scars are shallow and moderate and they can improve alot (through dermapen).

I'm sorry :(

Your scars are not bad in terms of scar size/depth. That discoloration all around/in your scars is what's making them look obvious. I would say mild scarring if you didn't have the pigmentation issues. Plus, they are near your beard so they don't look as obvious. Anyway, I think you need to get on Retin A/hydroquinone asap in order to get rid of the hyperpigmentation. Get glycolic acid peels every month as well in order to increase cell turnover and getting your normal skin color back. Were the first two pics taken in fluorescent lighting? Because that makes anyone's scars look more pigmented.

I am currently on the obagi skin care, which is topical creams that includes hydroquinone and Tretinoin, I think retin-a in the UK might be tretinoin? As for acid peels I am not sure if it's suitable for me sounds scary and extreme for me :( , although I will do some research. So yeah I'm using Obagi topical creams for prevention of acne and for the hyper pigmentation marks. Using for 5 days now, it's not going well for me as my face is a little bit red and sore :( Doing more research on-line on the obagi topical creams whether it's suitable for dark Asian skin.

All of the pics above were taken with my camera phone with flash light during the day. When pics are taken of me you cant see my scars because I am so dark skin Asian. That's why I use flash lights from camera phone.

Start off with using the tretinoin once every 3 days and then try to once every two days in a few weeks. Even my skin, after two years, gets irritated and dry if i use it everyday.

It's hard to tell if you have scarring by pictures, unless you shine light at an angle to your face. However even just looking at these it looks like your problem is more to do with uneven skin tone and enlarged pores.

Going to give it a go now :)

The last picture is without camera flash. I have been told by my dermatologist I have a mixture of ice pick boxcar and rolling scars. Also I have dark hyper pigmentation marks.

I would like to thank everyone who replied and gave me feedback to my question, much appreciated. Any more advice or information regarding Dermapen, obagi topical creams and hyper pigmentation marks would be grateful. Happy healing everyone :)
