Trademark Chemical Peel Damage

Hi, I posted a topic a few weeks ago about using chemical peels while on the regimen. Now, I wasn't explicitly practising the full regimen whilst performing these peels, but I was edging my luck and I paid for it.

I now have the characteristic waxy/shiny thin skin look and easily flush, which I gather is a common bad reaction to chemical peels for some people. I only did 3 mind you, so it's not as if I completely went overboard :/

I have however, read of a few people who had managed to reverse this damage with a short stint on either Accutane (no idea how?) and more interestingly to me, a prescribed anti-inflammatory steroid (which I'm assuming is a cortisone?)

So my simple question is, has anybody had experience of this? And could you offer advice on whether an anti-inflammatory steroid is the right way to go in order to help my skin heal itself and regain elasticity, which will in turn halt the flushing?

Thanks.

On my last chemical peel my face looked pretty good the days after but then a few days later it looked horrible for one day and the next day baby powder fixed it really well tongue.png

The Regimen is horrible. BP is Horrible. ESPECIALLY is you have easily irritated sensitive skin. My recommendation is to cleanse & moisturize with oils such as Joboba (Cleanse) and Castor(Mild moisturizer and drys out existing acne) (they mix in well) (3/4 Joboba 1/4 Castor). Use a Zinc based sunscreen or Neutrogena Ultrasheer.

My question is why did you go straight to Glycolic Peels and not TCA Peels?

I appreciate that the power of description can only go so far, so I will post a pic when I can. It's basically a weird waxy kind of sheen that covers my skin, which I have also seen described on various forums when I was doing my research on people who may have had the same kind of experience. Almost like if somebody had extremely oily skin, yet their face was completely dry.

My skin is also it's normal colour when I wake up, but after a couple of hours it takes on a red tone, which doesn't seem to shift or change for the rest of the day. My guess would be a blood response to inflammation due to the fact that my skin hasn't healed from the last peel yet properly. But then as we've already established, sometimes my guessing gets me into trouble. I know that this is reversible (always have to stay optimistic, or what hope is there?), I just really want to find the right combination to do it.

@Theredbaron, what kind of bad reaction did your skin have to the peel?

@Robertioo, would you say jojoba has good regenerating properties?

In answer to your question, I did it because Glycolic peels are supposed to be light and TCA are medium/deep? Although I had read occasionally not to use BP with the peels, the timeframes have never been specified exactly and I made sure I was careful in not using BP for a good few days following the peel. I appreciate it sounds stupid to try it in the first place. Ah, won't be doing it again at any rate sad.png

It looks leathery, but I performed my last peel about 10 days ago so I'm not sure if it would be that. I'd love to be wrong, and I have held off posting on here until I felt sure something was wrong. It's the colour-flush really that puts me off thinking that. As if my skin has a constant inflammatory response.

A pic would definitely help.

Just an update- yesterday I had some major peeling skin around the mouth and cheekbones, but the redness was a lot less noticeable than it had been all last week. However this morning I got up and the redness had disappeared again, but no peeling today? My skin now feels "hard" and like it's lost all it's sensitivity to the touch, scaly. That slight redness from yesterday is back now 2 hours after waking up. It's less pronounced than it was, but I'd like to know why it isn't there after waking yet it seems to linger all day an hour later.

From the touch and feel of my skin, I'd say it is shedding at last from the peel which is now 12 days old. As somebody above me already suggested it might be. But if it is, it's taking it's time about it eusa_think.gif

Well, it's been 15 days and my skin is still looking leathery/waxy/shiny. The redness is now in 2 particular patches but my skin looks paper-thin at the mo. Very distressing.
