I'm a 28-year old, dark-skinned Indian lady living in Columbus, Ohio. I was on Accutane last year and all I looked forward to was being able to attack these scars once enough time had passed.
After mustering up the courage and a couple of consultations I am getting subcision tomorrow! I am SO nervous! My doctor thinks I should do fillers for the instant gratification, but I will be doing subcision + suction and I will keep you all updated on my progress.
Attached is a picture of the worst side of my face. We will be treating the rolling scars. The ice-pick scars will be treated later with either CO2 or TCA CROSS.
Wish me luck and please share your stories and support! I will be posting daily progress pics and updates.

Of course! Initial is $250, each additional treatment is $150. My doctor is one of the top plastic surgeons in the area so I was surprised it was this inexpensive! Here's hoping it's worth it...ack.
OP delivers!!! I tried taking pics of my skin before the procedure and I realized it didn't really show as much as I wanted to so I made a YouTube video. Hopefully this helps SOMEBODY!

I forgot to mentioned that the doctor wiped down my face with iodine before the procedure. I hurt a LOT more than I expected, but don't let that dissuade you!

Sorry, another question. I'm also a woman of color with icepicks, and you mentioned getting co2 laser here and in your video...did your doctor say anything about the risks? Or how to lower the risks?

I have had a bad experience with lasers on a leg scar... but it was not a CO2 laser. My plastic surgeon did do a test spot with the CO2 laser on my leg and it was fine--no hyperpigmentation. I have not done it on my face before.
In terms of the risk--the risk of hyperpigmentation is there. This risk is minimized by using hydroquinone for a certain period of time before the procedure. The duration of the hydroquinone treatment is determined by your doctor. Mine has told me I could use it a few months beforehand.
In all honesty, CO2 and dermaroller cause the same sort of trauma to the skin, except with the dermaroller there's a much smaller risk of hyperpigmentation. I am going to try doing dermaroller before CO2 at a derm's office.

And you don't look bad at all post subcision! I was expecting something much more rough.
Edit. Ah, I just noticed the youtube video. Couldn't see the rolling scars there that well either, but it was nice to watch. You're very pretty!

Not shallow, but it's definitely hard to show shadowing on dark skin! My scars are pretty deep. They're harder to notice without foundation, and I wasn't wearing makeup in that video. When I apply make-up it settles in the scars and that's when it's cringe-worthy!
You know, I've been a member since 2006 and I was so insecure to post any pics of my horrible skin. I love that the older I get the less I care LOL. This picture is not flattering, but here I am at Day 2. It definitely looks worse today since the bruises have started to form. I can see that my doctor missed a couple scars, but I guess we will save those for next time.

Thank you so much for sharing! Please take this as a compliment but I really don't see any rolling scars in your photos. I do see the icepick/boxcar scars and it also looks like those were the ones subcised from the redness in your after pics. Are those the scars you are referring to on the cheeks close to the nose? If so, those are the types of scars I would like to try subcision on and wasn't sure if it would work because it is a treatment targeted towards rolling scars. But from your update, I definitely see improvement so congratulations! I hope you can clarify for me and I hope I haven't come off as rude or matter-of-fact. Thanks again!
Thank you very much for this Michelle! I think it is really marvelous of you, especially since, I concur, there is little to no documentation about subscision despite hearing about its results. I think it is looking really great so far! Keep us posted. I gather it might be some swelling thrown in there as well, but fingers crossed for you.
more impossible, could you please post more than just your left cheek? I'm also interested to know which specific scars you had targeted. I'm not sure I really saw where you originally had your scarring from your first pic, which was just a portion of your left cheek (looks great by the way). As far as your left cheek goes, it seems all of the hyperpigmentation was taken care of, but I don't think I saw anything more than hyperpigmentation on your cheek anyway based on the first picture you took. Failing all else, just based on the fact you got rid of your pih with the subcision is pretty awesome. I always thought if a subcision can fix scarred tissue it should be able to do the same with hyperpigmentation, which you seem to have proved here. Although it is not a hyperpigmentation treatment, I think it is definitely an option as a last resort to hyperpigmentation treatment.
And yeah, pretty much all of these treatments hurt like hell. I guess we just have to get used to it

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've actually been looking into getting this procedure or at last consulting with a doctor who performs the procedure for some time. I've got a plethora of scars that I would lke to treat and I am trying to determine the best plan of attack. Subcision sounds the most appealing to me however, I've had trouble finding a physician that performs it. I live about an hour south of Cbus so I was pretty excited when i came across your post. hey i just want to say your scarrings not bad i am also indian wondering how you are getting on with your treatment any pics etc is appreciated. I also came across your youtube video glad you decide to take action. If you are looking for a permanant soloution for those holes in your skin maybe consider tca cross as oppossed to filler so you completely fix your problem.
