Thanks for the reply. I actually have seen that question on realself and have also read most of the tca cross posts on here. What makes me nervous is that many people report success, but there are also some people who worsened their scars. My ice pick scar is right under my eye in what I feel is a very noticeable place, and I would be upset if it got worse. I also feel like it would be comforting to see other people having recent success with cross.

Yea I understand. Sorry I couldn't be much help. I assure there are a lot of people that have success with various scar treatments that don't post here; TCA, Dermaroller, Peels etc..But keep seeking options, eventually you'll find something good.
My suggestion is start with your diet. Clean whole foods, filled with lots of raw fruit and veggies.

Thanks! My diet actually is in check and it helps my skin so much. Too bad a good diet can't erase scars too haha!
Hey Paigems,
I performed an at-home TCA Cross with 100% solution about a week ago. I had one icepick scar on the side of my cheek. I've had it since I was a little kid and the rest of my face is actually quite fine and free of scars/acne. Which I think actually made the scar stand out even more. Anyways it was definitely a very very deep and noticeable ice-pick scar.
I ordered the TCA 100% solution from some random ebay seller with a ridiculously high customer feedback rating. The solution later proved to be of quality and I can dig around in my email for the sellers name if its something you're interested in.
I grabbed a box of toothpicks from my local grocery store, made sure they were just wood and nothing else (colored, waxed, etc). let one soak in the solution for about 30 seconds and then semi-firmly applied the toothpick to the center of the icepick scar. I held it for about 2 seconds. The scar "frosted" from the chemical about 15 seconds later and that was the end of it.
For about 3 days my scar looked much larger. Around the 4th day a scab formed over the surface and stayed for another 7 days or so. During that time I took showers daily but didn't wash my face. I work from home so this was a pretty easy ordeal. The original scar was near the diameter of the toothpick which means it was pretty darn large.
Needless to say the scar is almost entirely gone. The scab is just fading away now and so it is a little hard to tell, but honestly I can't see any of the scar underneath, and I mean any. As far as miracle treatments go this was definitely one of them for me. After a moderator approves this post I'm sure I can throw some before and after pictures up. I couldn't have gotten any better results.
Of course this was without a doubt an experimental task, and a very personal one at that. I imagine results are going to vary incredibly so please don't let my post sway your decision making process entirely. I hope that helps!
Note: And it is probably worth mentioning that this was my 3rd time performing an at-home 100% cross. The first time I was nervous, applied almost no solution, had no frosting/scab. Aka nothing happened. Second time was a little bit more aggressive but same result. 3rd time much more aggressive with miracle results. Allowed a full month between attempts regardless. Cheers!

Hi Todd. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with TCA CROSS! What made you decide to do it yourself as opposed to having a professional do it? I'd like to have it done, but the closest experienced person is 4hrs away and charges about $500! I have steady hands and I've researched the procedure extensively, but I'm still scared. I've though about experimenting with 30 or 50% tca but I'm not sure...

My pleasure Paigems!
I watched all the videos I could find on the application of the solution and observed the ways in which they applied it. And honestly after 5-6 videos (all I could find at the time) I noticed that there was literally no consistency what so ever. They all used toothpicks for the application, but some doctors were pressing firmly, some not at all, some were holding it down for X seconds, some weren't. After seeing that many different methods of applying the solution I began to realize that the application process was sort of a joke. Just make sure there isn't excess solution (as in it could potentially drip) and you're going to be fine. The solutions doing the work here, not the skilled hand of a doctor. Of course let me FIRMLY say that is personal opinion
I also feel that If I didn't take a hands on approach I would never actually do anything about it. I've always just "dealt" with the scar/scars and as such It seemed that I was going to forever push it to the side. The fact that the bottle sits in my bathroom waiting patiently for my schedule to open up just seems ideal. The only real downside is of course a higher chance for user error during application. And more importantly the advice from a doctor on whether or not the treatment would be suitable for our/my skin type.
For the record $500 is literally absurd and borders on a scam. The solution itself is dirt, dirt cheap and the application process will take a whole 15 seconds. It would be the equivalent of having a dentist charge you $500 for a flossing. Also the TCA Cross process normally will require 2-4 applications. Is that the price for several visits or per? I know my local doctor was charging 90-110 per visit. Sorry if that sounded negative, I'm not trying to deter you by any-means, I'm just sharing what I've learned so far.
30% or 50% might be a good way to ease into it. However, I must note that at 100% for the first few attempts I had absolutely 0 results. So it might prove difficult to gain any insight into the treatment at those percentages. But i'm all for easing into things. Cheers! Let me know if you have anymore questions
Oh and i'm a pretty young male and have always thought I have very resilient skin. So even though the process should of scared me it really didn't. I walked into it with a pretty "oh well it already sucks, least this way it has a chance to get better". That was probably the biggest reason for doing it myself

Thank you again Todd! Your replies are so detailed and helpful
I think soon I might be brave enough to try TCA CROSS. I'll probably increase the strength gradually from 30 to 50%. Maybe eventually I'll be brave enough to try 100% like you.
I actually have a few questions about the TCA CROSS procedure you used. When you poked the scar with the toothpick, did you get any on the inside walls of the scar? Or did you just try to target the base of the scar? My scar is extremely narrow, like a scarred pore, so I feel like it will be difficult to avoid contact with the walls. Also, what did you do after you crossed? Did you neutralize or rinse with water? I am concerned that if I rinse with water that will cause some of the tca to transfer to the healthy skin. Oh, and did you cover the scar with anything while it was healing?
I hope that's not too many questions!

Hey Paigems. My scar was pretty narrow as well and I always tried to make contact with the very base of the scar. You will touch the walls no matter what and that's fine, but you should be aiming to treat the base at all times. You will be using such a fine amount of the solution that dripping or transferring to healthy parts of your skin should never be a problem. The worst part of the procedure is that you shouldn't be washing your for 4-5 days. I took a shower every day just simply didn't wash my face. I used absolutely no products. It's definitely a pretty harsh chemical and your face will reflect that. From personal experience and observing the state of the scar it just appeared that 100% natural healing was going to be best. And so far that has held true. I also don't experience much dryness, I've heard of users applying a light amount of moisturizer daily if they experience that symptom. But overall the agreed upon route has been to not get the scar wet, don't rinse off the solution after, and to not apply any sort of additional moisturizers. You normally want to let the formed scab stay on as long as possible, which is often times about 5-6 days after it has formed.
Hi Crownroyal! Thanks for your input! I performed my last TCA Cross on the 19th of last month. And as you know that means my scab is gone. I have some slight abrasion and redness left that i'm waiting to fade away. It's pretty clear that their were large improvements and that the cross was very successful. I'm simply trying not to add any exaggeration or "snake oil" sounding to the advice I give Paigems. Also I'm aware that the procedure has an effect on collagen reproduction and that results can take months to see but 7 months away in July might be a bit of a stretch. Most people will have several additional treatments in that period. Regardless everyone is different and results will vary greatly. I think it is safe to say that most users experience the highest level of change after their scab has fallen off. That being said when that time came for me the results were wonderful. Thank you so much for your input though! Also keep in mind that this was my third round of TCA Cross and not my first. Cheers mate
