Hello,
I was on Accutane and it cleared my acne nicely. With that said Ill try to keep this brief. Ive been a year and around 7 months post-Accutane and am considering getting Mixto laser resurfacing for my mild acne scarring.
Im Hispanic and my main concern is hyperpigmentation. Today I went in for a consultation to talk about the procedure and how everything works. The doctor told me that we would pretreat the skin with hydroquinone for four weeks pre-procedure and that this would reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation. Of course Ive done my research and I know I would get told something along those lines. Keep in mind this was just a consultation and I have not decided if I will do this or not.
I dont want to constantly wake up and look at my scars in the morning and say things like They dont look as bad today. They just look better some days and worst others. They are mild which is why I do not want to jump into this and regret it afterwards but at the same time I feel like if I dont do this Ill just ask myself over and over why didnt I try something that could help my scars and make me feel better about myself!
Here are some pictures I took today. Try to ignore the pimple I have in my right cheek which is my problem cheek and the one with the most scarring. My left cheek has some scarring but does not bother me much if any at all. Currently I dont break out too much just get a pimple here and there and they are usually small and go away quickly. This one on the other hand Id like to believe is the result of stress and not sleeping well. Also clearly I picked at it which was a terrible thing to do and I regret it and it makes me upset to think that I want improvement yet I pick knowing that it doesnt help and can cause scarring. Anyway here are the pictures.
Dude your skin is nearly flawless... I see a couple marks. Shouldn't be hard to treat at all.
Thanks a lot, I've been debating whether to get this done or not. I have until November to decide since I have to prepare the skin 4 weeks prior to the laser. (I forgot to mention that if I were to get the laser I'd do it around December 15-16 when I'm done with this semester) Just asking my family if I should do it or not and the only person who is being supportive of this is my grandmother. The rest are just like you shouldnt do it blah blah blah. So yea. :\ I'm still trying to decide. I know this is my decision but the fact that the rest of my family members are against it makes it harder to decide.
i think your skin looks great! i only see a few small scars but they arent bad at all. if i were you i wouldn't bother with doing laser but that is up to you. you just have to really think about it and then make that decision only when you are 100% certain about it. if you have any doubt then don't do it. honestly though i would love to have your skin.

Really, what is you family going to say, they are biased. You are better off seeking opinions from those you don't know. My ex also said I was crazy for wanting to do Re:pair and it was the best thing I ever did. I misread your initial post about the length of time off accutane. Your scars are minor to us, but major to you, and you are who you must please.

Thanks Tracy, this makes me feel really nice regarding my skin. It is really hard to not let myself be bothered by them though.

You just put into words something that was on my mind and I was having a hard time putting it into words. Its exactly like that my family thinks I'm crazy or something. Reading your post makes me feel stronger to do this because like you said it is major to me and I have to please myself. Thanks for the support. Also how long did it take for your skin to heal and normalize after Re:pair? I know that going through that recovery time will be tough for me.
Same with everyone that has posted. I would like to get more opinions from everybody and maybe some experiences from people with hispanic skin that have gotten laser resurfacing Like mixto or Fraxel Re:pair.
