Subcision?

I've somewhat managed my acne and am left with rolling scars all over. I've been looking into subcision but can't seem to find a doctor in northern california who doesn't charge 1500 dollars per treatment(I've heard of people getting them cheaper). Yes I understand finding an experienced doctor is priority, but I also understand when dermatologists think they can charge outrageous costs because they happen to reside in high income neighborhoods.

Anyway, do you think subcision is the best path to take? And does anyone know a good dermatologist/plastic surgeon who knows watsup on subcision and who doesn't inflate their pricing?

Try Menlo Dermatology, they usually have pretty fair prices there.

You don't have rolling scars. You have a mix of boxcar + ice pick scars. Subcision usually works well for real rolling scars - unfortunately it doesn't do much for pock marks.

These are more the types of scars subcision helps with:

or like these ones from Mr Matt:

These are good quality pictures. Are both pictures taken of the same cheek?

The first is of the right cheek and the second is on the left side. The right cheek has the worse. I took them in very harsh light.

I think they definitely look like rolling scars though? Although fairly shallow and small in size. If you try subcision on them, please keep us updated.

Dr morganroth has experience with it, I would not be concerned with price but experience, don't you want the best person to treat your scars? I wouldn't let just anyone touch my face.

Deep fractional co2, microneedling, erbium lasers (to some extent), dermabrasion (risky), tca cross and subcision (to some extent). Fractional co2 would probably be your best bet as you have the skin type that would allow the doc to be aggressive. If you want better results - combination therapies usually give the best results.

I don't personally think subcision would help too much with those types of marks - but there isn't a huge risk with it, so you can try it if you want.

Rolling scars look more like waves on your skin or big deep indents without borders. They're usually more severe, but oddly enough easier to treat from what I've seen.

Yeah, thanks. To me what he has on his right cheek looks like small rolling scars or similar indents rather than boxcar scars, although I'm fairly "new" dealing with rolling scars myself so I'm not entirely sure. How can you tell if they're very soft-edged shallow boxcars or small rolling scars? He does have some scarred pores too, but they're not a big issue in my opinion.

I have a couple scars that in my opinion look similar and I assumed they're rolling scars since they don't have clear edges and seem to deeper in the skin, whereas the surface looks relatively normal. But they look quite a bit like what the OP has on his cheek.

i agree, subcision won't help much for your scar type. i have a few very shallow rolling scars. subcision didn't correct them at all, but one of them became a very small lump. it's visible on some lighting, and makes my skin texture really bad, not smooth and looks lumpy...i have a few lumps from subcision(especially around subcised areas), and those lumps feel not hard, but raised and empty(?)...before my treatment, my scars are very shallow but visible, and now my scars are still visible but with lumps... sad.png subcision responds well if you have deeper rolling scars. also yea i agree you should check out Mr Matt post.

here are some more pictures in nasty harsh lighting. I'm pretty sure its a mix of rolling, box and icepick scars. Awesome.

I will try to see Dr morganroth and will def upload before and after pics for whatever treatment I end up doing.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you! How long have you had the lumps and have you tried treating them yet? I'm considering subcision for a couple of very shallow (but quite large and visible) rolling scars and I've read a lot of mixed reviews of its effectiveness for shallow scarring. Maybe not worth the risk.
