Hey guys, I have had a pretty nasty acne since age 14 (the worst - cystic acne) and now it seems I managed to reduce it to one or two pimples (no milk, no cow products, no sugar or spicy foods) . I am 22 now I got a few nasty scars and dont know how to get rid of them. I didn`t read all your thread but I want some expert advice from you !
In my country - romania - we don`t have lots of options for acne scar treatments and the one that are available are very expensive, but I want to try one of these :
1. Microdermabrasion with cristals
2. Microdermabrasion with diamonds
They say it would help a lot, the one with diamonds seems to be better. What do you guys think ? should I give money for something like that ? and also, is there any cream that I should search for ? or maybe some natural stuff that I can eat ? however the scars are pretty old , 7 years old and i don`t know if anything internally would change them. Please respond with your info ! I really need it.
I aprecciate a lot, Alex
Hi Alex, i just had my 2nd microdermabrasion done this past Monday and im already noticing an improvement. I will be getting my 3rd one done Monday the 10th and cant wait to see the results after.....I have old acne scars as well as new ones and so far so good with the dermabrasions, u wont notice much of a difference after the 1st one tho except for smoother skin and feels cleaner.
In my experience, and from all my research, microdermabrasion will do nothing for your scars. It is too superficial a treatment. Your scars lie in the deeper layers of your skin. Microdermabrasion only targets the very top layer (the layer that sheds normally even if you do nothing to your skin). So it will improve your skin's smoothness and will help to unclog pores, but that is about it.
As posters have said above, dermabrasion is the treatment that will remove/improve scars. It is extremely invasive and painful and leads to significant downtime while you heal. Microdermabrasion utilises a similar technique but is a completely different procedure.
Are you guys sure that microdermabrasion won`t fix acne scars ?
As for dermabrasion, it seems I cannot do it since I am using zineryt (eritromicine) to keep my acne down. They say I must be clean of eritromicine for 6 months. And however there are risks to get more scars. Wtf ?
Are there other options for this scars ? Please inform me with all the stuff
I'm sorry that it's not what you want to hear but I am positive that you will see little to no improvement in your scarring if you're treating it with microdermabrasion. How deep are your scars? What kind of scarring are you dealing with (icepick, rolling, boxcar, hypertrophic)?
There are no creams that will improve scarring. Retin-A is good for your skin and will help to build collagen but again, this alone will not cure your scars.
There are no pills or dietary things that can improve your scarring. Being in good health is fantastic, but your scars will still be there.
You need to induce some kind of trauma or trauma-like event to your scars to improve them. For example, lasers and skin needling work by getting down into the deeper layers of your skin to break up scar tissue and to promote healthy collagen to form. Chemical peels could help, but again you would need an extremely aggressive peel to get to the layers of your skin that are damaged.
I'm sorry that I can't suggest an easy or home remedy for your scarring. It's frustrating but you mustn't give up! What are your options over there in Romania?
It seems I have a few box scars and a few rolling scars. However for some reason I cant see them in photos but in low light only.
It seems that we have many options here but they are very expensive. The laser technique is like 900 euro. I don`t have that money for a treatment.
Someone here said I should buy a dermaroller because it`s the best and cheap. What do you say ?

Microdermabrasion will do absolutely nothing for rolling or indented scars.
Derma roller/ derma stamp takes time. I used a derma roller for about 3 months 3x a week with a .5 mm roller. Allowed for better topical penetration but that was it. Scars didn't budge one bit. I did use a very small roller and I also have very small scars that I should of seen at least a tiny bit of improvement in but didn't.
Out of all the options you have is say go with the lactic and glycolic acid first. You can later work your way up to stronger peels if you need too
Thanks, from what I read on the net it seems that some people got bad results from dermaroller (scars were worse) and some got bad results after peels... I don`t know what to do. I thought that there are a few options but it seems it`s not that easy to get rid of scars. I would go with the chimical peel but what if it would do bad to my scars?
Microdermabrasion will NOT heal your scars, no matter how many treatments you have or how long you do it for. Those who believe otherwise do not know what scar tissue is. If you have true scarring it is deep within the dermis and will not simply come to the surface and disappear. If it did then everyone would do it.
Zinc, iron, vitamin C. That's all you need to keep your skin in optimum health. Nothing wild and fancy, just the basics.
Dermaroller home treatments are risky and I personally can't give you any real advice as to how to proceed here as I have only had professional Dermaroller treatments. I can say though that the results have been incredible!
Hi - I just wanted to let you know that I have tried many treatments and spent or wasted alot of money on treatments that do not work for scarring. Microdermabrasion being one of them.
Its really annoying and frustrating that these beauty clinics make it seem like these will really make any difference, when they really do not.
Microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer or skin, having no effect whatsoever on the actual scar. YOu might as well buy a good face scrub because thats all it really is.
Good luck with whatever you choose but I belive the more harsh treatments like dermabrasion would be better.
AJ, it is very sad that clinics push these treatments knowing full well that they don't work. Unfortunately it takes people like us to get out there and spread the word, which shouldn't be the case. But like everything there are those out there who aim to profit from someone else's misfortune.
Don't give up!
