Hi,

Can anyone suggest a type of treatment that I could have for my acne scars. I'm not sure what type of scars they are but have included some pics. The pics were taken on my phone in daylight.

I have scars mostly on my cheeks and chin as a result of squeezing spots as a teenager. I'm 24 now and have the odd breakout, nothing too bad, but that's probably down to dianette which has worked great and cleared my skin up so much. I'm too scared to stop taking it now though in case the breakouts come back.

I'm really self conscious about the skars as some of them are like pot holes and can't be covered with make up.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions, as I've looked into it a lot and am at a loss as to what would be best. I don't expect perfect skin but don't want to waste a lot of money on something that won't make a difference.

Thanks

Hiya sweetie!

Looks to me like you have mild boxcar scarring. It's not too bad so I wouldn't rush into anything too invasive. Light chemical peels (done by a professional) could really help you. If you have isolated scars that are a little deeper you could look into having eDermastamp treatments just for those spots. I think you'd see awesome improvement with that.

Also, may I ask what topicals you are using on your skin at the moment? xx

Hey!

Thank you for your reply and suggestions :). I had been thinking about dermarolling treatments but wasn't sure if it would be the best treatment to go for. I'll definitely have a look into the chemical peels first.

At the moment I use zineryt prescribed from my doctor which helps a lot for any spots that I get. It drys my skin out quite a bit though. I also use simple face wash and moisturiser.

I think the open pores on my face make my skin look much worse. I splash my face with cold water after washing and use a primer but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Ive heard that egg white face masks help so going to give that a go :). Do you know if the peels would help shrink the pores too or are there any products you would recommend for shrinking or covering them?

Thanks :)

Dermaroller is my weapon of choice and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I have seen a 70% reduction in my acne scarring after 5 sessions. I don't recommend home treatments though as it's just too risky. But professional treatments done by a trained esthetician, using the original Dermaroller are incredibly effective. Takes patience but it's worth it! The eDermastamp is made by the same company and is more for isolated scarring or single pock marks etc. :)

Pore size is unfortunately gentic but there are things that help. Cold water won't help (if only it did! :D) and in fact may make your skin break out more or even dry it out. If you're looking for permanent improvement then the Dermaroller and/or chemical peels are your friends as they mechanically induce trauma to your skin causing your body to go into repair mode, thus creating new, fresh, tighter skin. For short term improvement, have you tried switching primers to try out other brands/types? An expensive primer will be much better. It's one of the things that you can't skimp on. ;) There is also something called Nanoblur that I've been trying to research. It's basically a product that you apply over your makeup to diffuse light and make your skin appear much smoother. Seems interesting but I am not sure what ingredients are in it just yet. I did try some on the back of my hand when I last went to the chemist and yes it did make it look incredibly smooth! I just like to know what's in a product before it goes on my face. Worth checking out though. ;)

Also, look into a device called the Clarisonic brush. I own one and I love it to bits. It's a brush that you use when cleansing your face and it removes so much more make up etc then you could ever do using your hands. My pores love me for it! But keep in mind that it can dry you out a little if you use it morning and night. I only use it once every second night. Takes 60 seconds and you're done!

xx
