Hey,
I've finally managed to get my acne under control (not completely) and think it's time I attempt to combat my scarring. I hold my hands up to the fact that there are much more severe cases of acne scarring/hyperpigmentation, but of course it's still not nice to have what acne left behind and seeing it there everyday.
The treatments that I've considered are purchasing a 'PMD' (personal microderm), glycolic-acid peels or getting professional laser treatments. Before carrying any of those out, I thought it would be best to get a second opinion from the knowledgeable members of acne.org.
I apologise about the picture, I took it early this morning and haven't had a shave or bothered to make an effort. I'm rocking the hobo look. I'm also VERY pale, which is unfortunately my natural skin tone. I'm pretty sure that I have both indented scars and some hyperpigmentation (I've highlighted which areas I believe are acne scars and HP) and I must also note that it looks much more red and noticeable when I'm in the sun.
Disgusting picture alert -
Thanks,
Lewis
u could use not-so-high % of peels.
or ask ur derma to suggest u a AHA face wash.
they are light on skin(comparatively) and works(i think they do).
but then,u have almost clear skin and the scars or spots are hardly visible.
btw,did u post ur success story here on acne.org yet?
how u managed to control ur acne?
aana
I took a less is more approach to clearing up my acne. I used to use soo much crap on my skin it's unreal. I just stopped using facewipes/pads that are full of alcohol and made sure to cleanse only twice a day. For a while I also used a moisturiser that contained .5% salicylic acid and that helped me initially clear up, that was Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturiser. I no longer use that though.
Being a guy, I don't wear makeup so this approach to clearing my acne is pretty easy. It would be a lot harder to not use face wipes etc. if I needed to remove a lot of makeup.
I wouldn't even really say I've successfully beat acne. I still break out around my nose and chin occasionally (1-2 whiteheads), but my forehead and cheeks remain constantly clear.
i wash just twice with this aha cleanser(1%) and splash my face with water 3-4 times for its get oily + i use the clingard gel twice a day.(so the face needs to be clean before application.n i remove it later)
i dnt use any cream or med on my face excpt for spot treatment.
in fact i'm stopping bp from today onwards for i feel since i dnt have much active acne now..it's pointless using bp on white heads or small bumps and reddening them overnight.
otherwise i dnt use any make up.
i hardly go out(its been ages i've gone out actually)am always home these days...so i dnt even use sunscreen.
nothing excpt spot treatment and wash.
that should do right.
i have zevit capsules(multivitamin capsules - vit c-b complex+ zinc sulphate)
have a balanced diet.
i will lie if i say there's no improvement at all.but that could also be for the azithral 500 tablets i took abt a week ago.
(azithromycin 500 tablets thats suppose to lessen the bacteria on skin).
Yeah, man. Honestly, those scars are hardly even there. I've had a great deal of improvment in my scarring over the last 5 months using dermarollers/dermastamps and I just performed TCA cross on myself last night to help with my ice picks which are far more severe than yours. I had a deep pit under my eye (about the size of eye black on a football player) due to collagen loss that has miraculously started to puff back out, but it's taken 5 months and will take at least 5 more I bet. My dermarolling routine has been to do a combo of a 1mm roller everywhere and stamping with a 1.5mm stamp in the real trouble areas every 3 or 4 weeks (I was doing a 1mm roll everywhere every 7 to 10 days until I introduced the 1.5mm stamp). I use copper peptides and an anti aging deep wrinkle serum with retinol sa post roll. I also use a .5mm roller every few days with the copper peps and the retinol for topical absorbtion and surface scar tissue break-up. After a couple of months of the regular treatment, I give my face a break from everything and do nothing for 4-6 weeks. It's been working for me, the needling, but I doubt you would really need all of the needling with only those little ice pick type dealies. The jury is still out on the TCA cross, I just did it last night with 50% TCA. I am opimistic. I think the real key for me has been my diet. I eat VERY HEALTHY. LOTS of fresh fruit and veggies. A big shot of wheat grass/spirulina/chlorella every single day along with 5-10g of vitamin c. I also take plenty of other antioxidants, msm, and hyaluronic acid. I CAN NOT STRESS TO YOU ENOUGH HOW IMPORTANT WHAT YOU EAT IS TO THE RESULTS YOU SEE FROM YOUR TREATMENT. YOUR DIET IS ABSOLUTELY 100% CRUCIAL TO YOUR BODY'S ABILITY TO HEAL. I also take serrapeptase. it's an enzyme that eats scar tissue and helps to prevent new scarring from treatments. hope this helped
I really don't think you need to do anything drastic, your skin looks great. those little baby scars won't scare no girlies off fo sho, and they'll fade with time anyways. the point is, it can be done. scars can be healed. I'm doing it. But you have to do it inside and out. Diet, treatments, attitude. NEVER GIVE UP
That's nothing. I wouldn't do anything. Hyperpigmentation and the look of those shallow scars will improve naturally with time, and the risks of treatments aren't worth it for you. Maybe use retin-a at the most. Your skin looks great.
And disgusting picture alert? Oh please. As a person with actually noticeable scarring, I find that a bit insulting.
The 'disgusting' remark wasn't about the scarring, I don't believe any scarring is disgusting. It's unfortunate, maybe.
I was talking more the picture in general and my unshaven face. I'm sorry if I caused any offence by that. I have issues about pictures of myself.
Thanks for the advice

This exactly.
