Has anyone had lasting results from subcision alone, without fillers or a fat transfer, etc?
I'm wondering because I can't afford temporary fillers, and was wondering if, with a just few subcision treatments, the results are permanent? Or does the scar return to the way it was without some kind of filler to prevent that from happening? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
I definitely noticed some improvements after I had subcision with no filler or fat transfer.
I think that with each treatment of subcision, the improvements are small each time so several (maybe even 5+ treatments) are needed.
Subcision is one of the better treatments for rolling scars.

Thanks for the reply !
About what percentage of improvement would you say you had with each treatment?
And any problems with the scars re-attaching over time or anything?
Percentage improvement is very case sensitive. Meaning someone with severe scarring who is a candidate for subcision will probably notice a large improvement in the first treatment, then a decrease in each subsequent treatment.
Those with more mild scars who are candidates for subcision will probably notice smaller improvements with each session since their skin is not far from being normal to start off with...
As far as re-attaching, I don't think that's possible if the subcision is done correctly since its breaking up the fibrous bands that are attaching the 1st layer of skin to the 2nd layer. Blood fills the space beneath and you should be good to go. I'll have much more detailed info on this tmmrw, going to see a top notch guy for my shallow scars.

It depends on what type and how deep your scars are. If you have pretty deep rolling scars, you can see a huge improvement. I personally had a few pretty deep scars and with two subcisions, they are virtually unnoticeable. If I had to put a percentage on it, I'd say about 90% improvement (the majority of improvement coming in the first session).

It's difficult to say but I agree with Panic in that the first treatment seemed to give the best improvement and subsequent treatments a bit less but still improved my skin.
Subcision is cheap compared to many other treatments out there and should definitely be considered if you're wanting to have rolling scars improved.
Ok since I posted this I've been to two plastic surgeons, and they both don't understand how subcision would help, and they keep trying to sell me lasers and expensive excision. I broke down crying at one of the appointments because they act like the only thing that can help me is lasers which I refuse. It just feels hopeless. The plastic surgeons also act like anyone who says they had positive results with subcision are liars too, which is so nice of them to say.
Should I go speak with some dermatologists instead? I heard they also do subcision. I don't know who to talk to or how to find anyone that doesn't mind doing it even though it's not a big money maker for them.
I'm actually wondering the same thing. I had a consult earlier today and the Dr. recommended subcision with fraxel on the same day and then fillers at a later date. I have deep rolling scars on my chin and he said that fillers would be needed in my case because the scarring is so deep and the fillers would establish a base. He said the subcision and fraxel will be for the surface, while the fillers will target the deeper areas. Fillers sound interesting, but I don't like the idea of having to go back every few years to have it re-done. This Dr. does use silicone, but he felt that it wasn't appropriate for my type of scarring.
i wanna ask the same question but different way. I have scars on my cheeks. But on my left cheek i have some scars that i think they are pulling down my skin. So those make me look bad. My left cheek looks thinner than my right cheek. The question is does subcision work for my left cheek without filler? there is a wide scar on my cheek bone and that shows my face inasymetric. The scar is not deep but the whole area looks its down.
With my research here I think I would be an excellent canididate for subcision. I have made several calls to doctors in my area (Orange County CA) and haven't found any to do this procedure. Could someone please PM doctors In my area that perform subcision?
Looking forward to getting this done and posting my before and after results on this great forum!
Many thanks!
